Forums - Gaming Discussion - Let's talk about what members here are not talking in regards to Destiny

So Destiny is out. I was one of the many people that played the beta and enjoyed it. I also, was one of those people that rushed to pre-order it and went with the Limited Edition. Now the game is out and early meta score are putting it on an a tad above average game. I don't want to start a flames war here, but one thing that did annoy me prior to the release of the game was how much the Sony camp people of this forum claimed full victory for Playstation and how much Titanfall failed. In sales numbers, sure, Titanfall did not do as amazing as Destiny. But the one thing I am seeing is that Titanfall is in fact as good as Destiny just based on what is available to us from the current version of it. You can argue all you want that Destiny will have more content as the time goes. But also, that content means you're paying premium for it which negates any negative smack people said about Titanfall.

So, in the end, I think people did buy too much into the hype of Destiny because it had a great company behind it. But it definitely is not the killer game for Playstation. Those that haven't purchased Destiny will probably start seeing reviews or hearing word of mouth regarding it. I know I talked to one of my friends today while walking at work and how the game hasn't really sold me as much as I was hoping while playing the beta. If I were to guess right now, people will not buy the DLC in masses as much as Activision hopes once the full reviews come out and assuming it stays at it's current levels. In fact, I think I have more hope of Titanfall having a huge success with its sequel than Destiny would with it's expansions. What do you think?

Peace out!

An average quality, pretty much online only FPS. I think I'll need to pass.

Wonder how the letdown from the massive hype will affect players pre ordering again someday

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

The scores don't surprise me, but this game is doing a lot better than titanfall regardless. I think this might be related to people just being tired of reviews.

Why single it out as "not the killer game for Playstation"? :p Destiny is certainly going to sell a shit ton of PS4's (we can see that from the bundle sales), but ultimately it's still on 3 other platforms including its main competitor (unlike TF). No one is going to buy a PS4 specifically for Destiny without having already decided it to be their console of choice for this gen, regardless to Destiny's own quality.

But how could people be tired of reviews if reviews for Destiny are under an embargo from Activision? This is a very dishonest and dirty tactic to hide the fact that their game is mediocre.

I'd like to think that people will learn.

But people, in general, just aren't that smart.

Maybe games shouldn't be reviewed day one. There is a lot about to be said about how you can't truly appreciate a game until you've played it for a while. And also, look at what people are saying. It's clear a lot of people are tired of reviews.

Your logic is a bit backward. You don't need to put in 100 hours into a game to determine whether its good or not. It only takes a few to figure out whether you're having fun or not. A lot of the user reviews are based on those who've sunk 10 - 15 hours or more into the game. With that much time dedicated to the game, I believe that's more than enough to formulate an opinion on whether a game is good or not.

Ordinarily, the press has access to a game weeks or even months before they hit store shelves. From there, they create a review - often times - a few days to a week in advance of the game's release. This is normal. Activision prevented this because they did not want day-one buyers knowing about the quality of the game before purchasing it. They've realized that gamers are very informed consumers, and to pull the wool over their eyes, censored reviews so they'd get the highest turn out. This is a dirty and dishonest business tactic, and speaks volumes on Activision's concern for quality - which is zero. This is the second time a publisher has done this. Now, I'm afraid more publishers will do this to sell terrible games.

Destiny was always just a filler. The real FPS launches in November. 343 4LIFE

Well, from what we have heard the game did sell a lot and Activision is probably way more happy with sales than they would be with a high Metascore. And despite that, lower metas never stopped CoD Ghosts or BO2.
