Currently with a 74 metacritic rating the game will probably stay around that number throughout the upcoming days. Only Oni had a lower score (73) but that game was praised by the gaming community which isn't really the case with Destiny that is sitting on a 6.4 user rating.
However let numbers not deceive since this game is still a solid game with hours of content and some nice gameplay mechanics. And a lot of people are in fact enjoying the game. But what everyone commonly agrees with is that this is just the beginning of a game that will keep on expanding on features, storyline, gameplay and other content. This content is already fully in production and there is a clear vision behind it that'll make the add-ons a real added value, and perhaps even a must-buy purchase, to get the full Destiny experience.
The sole reason why this route has been chosen, in my opinion, is to get even more money out of expansions and DLC which is in some way a letdown. It would have been better received if this feature vision of having a steady stream of new content was actually already available in the basegame and give people the full experience first before looking into ways of expanding.
Nevertheless it is the way it is currently but I doubt Bungie and especially Activision will be happy with the way the game is received and reviewed. Because this might lead to less sales. Therefore I think that we'll see a newer, updated version that will include all the content including the expansions the Dark Below and House of Wolves plus all the other updates already at the beginning of next summer. This will keep momentum going because of the better value that people are getting when buying the game and with the corresponding higher reviews.
