Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony insists Vita is here to stay - as an indie/kiddie game platform

As much as I love my vita, the truth about it is that Sony has made it quite clear they have no fucking clue on how to market or sale a portable system. The LAST sony handheld I will ever buy from them. They SUCK!

Its like they took MS Zunes business model. Pathetic at best when compared to the way they handle consoles.

Around the Network

Just got my second Vita (2000/Slim). Double the hotness, double the fun!... I think?

Just bring all those japanese games to the west and i will be fine with whatever. Especially pressure SEGA to get off their rear ends and work on phantasy star.

That phantasy star online 2 could have saved the vita.

That's the most depressing thing about all this.  Sony in the west will happily acknowledge the device as an indie machine or a kids machine, but won't do anything to promote the work that NISA/XSEED/IFI/Aksys are doing; or even their own localization work (i.e. Freedom Wars; Oreshika).

Japanese gaems in the west might not be as big as they used to be, but they're still worth at least mentioning.

This audience already knows. NIS games don't need marketing budget, it's NIS

So basically sony is failing at everything except the PS4? LMFAO

It's enjoying growth year on year, but we're not going to do a damn thing for the fans who bought one.

This is what I heard too.

Sony has every right to make a portable system oriented around multiplatform small-budget games and family-friendly fare. But it should have embraced that philosophy years ago and marketed the system as such. As of now, this announcement amounts to a near-complete reversal of the Vita's tag line, "console quality gaming." As a Vita owner I can't help feel a little insulted.

Let's be realistic for a second, shall we? What do you expect from a company that is bleeding money when one of its products fails to sell well? They had every reason to discontinue it for quite some time now. The best they can do at the moment is minimal support. It's either that or nothing. Anyone with some business sense would get that as a company Sony can't do at the moment what Ninty is doing with wiiu considering the state of each company. The vita is a product that failed and it can either be on life support or they can declare it dead. I, for one, would be insulted if they were to discontinue it and close its online store. As things are at the  moment, I don't like it, but i get it.
