Film to be screened in 3D at film festival next month

Nintendo announced on Thursday that a short animated film titled Pikmin Short Movie will premiere at the 27th International Tokyo Film Festival from October 23 to 31. The CG film will be screened in 3D.

The film project was started by game producer Shigeru Miyamoto as an experiment to show actions of characters that couldn't be expressed in the game series. The film will be split into three shorts: “Mayonaka no Juice,” (Midnight Juice) in which the Pikmin make Captain Olimar's favorite juice, “Bin no Naka no Otakara,” (The Treasure Inside the Bottle) in which the Pikmin discover a mysterious treasure, and “Taihen na Ichi Nichi,” (A Hectic Day) which will focus on the spectacle at the workshop.

The film will be screened for free at the TOHO Cinemas Nihonbashi branch, but the attendees will be chosen by lottery beforehand. More details about the time and date of the screening will be announced at a later date at the film festival's website.

Nintendo shipped Pikmin 3- the third installment in its simulation video game series- for the Wii U console earlier this year.

Awesome! Pikmin series have to be the more modern Nintendo franchises in terms of cgi trailers or in game cutscenes because they actually have decent voice acting!

I hope no one notices my stealth edit.

I hope it's as good as the "Rebirth" CG short Nintendo commissioned Mix-Core to do back in the year 2000.

That short was used to showcase the Gamecube discs FMV ability had great production values for 14 years ago.

The music was good, the animation was good, the tree character was likeable and story was fitting.

I only wish Nintendo had ventured more into quality CG animation, though cost was restrictive back then.
