50% of US PC gamers Wait for Sales Instead of Paying Full Prce for Games

Half of all PC gamers opt to wait for a game to drop in price before buying it, a survey by NPD Group has found.

In a report which looked at 6, 225 US citizens over the age of 9, the NPD Group found that digital was on the rise, with more than 46% of PC gamers buying at least one title online. However, the survey also fond that gamers who do shop digitally are “far less likely” to buy a game at its original price.

Analyst Liam Callahan says that this trend in PC gaming marks a difficult barrier for PC businesses.

Consumers’ expectations may be the greatest barrier to maximizing spending in the PC gaming space. Since half of PC gamers who play digital and/or physical games on the computer are expecting there to always be a sale right around the corner, publishers and retailers alike need to better manage these expectations.”

The survey also found that roughly 37% of those surveyed were PC gamers, and that only 51% of these gamers were men.

Which is a good strategy since you can afford to play 5-10 times as many games for your money this way. I will never pay the full price for any game again in my life, this would be just a waste of money.

So half of gamers are smart enough to know that most games aren't worth full price to begin with.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

There's a certain saying for this:

If you wait, it will get cheaper.

Until it gets more expensive again =P

only 50%?

Anyway, i believe that the fact people on PC wait for steam sales is the reason some games are skipping/coming later on PC.It's the stealthy way companies found to "force" the $60 price tag.

But no game is ever really $60 on PC unless it's a Blizzard game. You can almost always find a 20% off coupon pre-launch for a title, hell I think I pre-purchased Dead Rising 3 for $35 (that game actually works great on my system so double win).

I wait for sales on both PC and Console games, you can thank Steam for the former and both Activision and Ubisoft for the latter.

I actually find PC piracy a little too sketchy these days, so I tend to avoid that altogether.

50 is lower than I expected. We're a pretty spoiled bunch. There's always a significant sale going on on some website.
