Imagining this conversation taking place at Ubisoft greatly amuses me.

"Shit guys, we can't release the Wii U version of Watch_Dogs in the same week Mario Kart 8 comes out. We'll get buried."

"You're right, we better push it back a bit. In fact, what if we pushed it back all the way to the Holidays? Nintendo never releases big games the week before Black Friday."

Picture it more like this...

"Shit guys, we should cancel the game, the team has been helping on the other version for a few months and the delay would be too big for the Wii U"

"You're right, but maybe if we can finish it by the holiday season we can take advantage of the push that Nintendo consoles get during that period, let's hope we can avoid other big titles for the console"

Of course I know that's not how it went down, but the thought entertains me just the same.

None of Ubisoft's E-rated games on Wii U came close to M-rated ZombiU in sales though, not even critical darling Rayman Legends.

you're missing the point entirely it doesnt matter HOW much the E rated game sold or M rated one sold. not at all. All that matters is they MAKE money on the e rated gaems and they dont make money on the M rated ones. Doesnt matter what the gap is.  Lets get real AC SC Zombi U those are games that are way more expensive to produce than Just Dance. Even the ports. So the M rated games HAVE to sell a certain amount to be worth it. Where Just Dance doesnt, they dont even need to sell half a mil to see profit from that game.

Just Dance maybe, but it's not as simple as "M-rated = automatically more expensive". Porting an M-rated game like Assassin's Creed 3 was likely quite a bit less expensive  than making a ground-up E -rated title like Tropical Freeze.

thats not relevant becasue Tropical Freeze wasnt made by Ubi so they probably dont even care how much that cost to make. Nothing to do with them. Ubi does make Just Dance which is cheap to make which means they dont have to sell as much copies which means we might see more of them.

In that case...

"Shit guys, we dodged the bullet with WD for Wii U, do you think there could be anything worse than releasing at the same time as Mario Kart 8"

"You are right, I am sure we can find a hole in their line-up during the holiday season, nobody would release anything big so close to black friday"

It's a fallacy that M rated games are always more expensive though.

Watch_dogs for Wii U is coming out on Japan also!!!, release date is December 4th, it looks like Nintendo is really pushing the mature audience in their home turf.

Wow! That does surprise me, but the more games the better. One of there last 3rd party M rated games, I guess realse it everywhere they can. Since we now know they had some type of involvement in the development of this game(I asume partial funding), I'm guessing they're translating and publishing, kind of like Rayman.

There are many way in which Nintendo could have provided help for the game.

-The easiest one is just plain funding, paying X amount of money to get the game finished

-They could also reduce the licenses fee for each copy of the game sold, so instead of charging Ubisoft 9 U$ per copy, they charge only 3 U$ and that way Ubisoft earns more for each unit and the bussiness could be more profitable for them

-They could offer technical support with a team of a few engineers working closely with the studio helping them solve the technical hurdles that they find on the way and getting a better response time, and improving their tools on the road

-They could lend a hand with the testing, since the Mario Club has so much experience supporting game testing on the console, they could get reports faster, identifying errors quick and reporting backso the studio could concentrate on the most common ones

-They could offer to publish the game in Japan, so Ubisoft ensures a few more sales without any extra effort, since Nintendo will be in charge of everything in that country.

And I am sure that there are more opptions, or it could be a combination of those mentioned.

No, Watch_Dogs is already out on PS3 and PS4 in Japan. It has translated menus, subtitles and the story elements have a Japanese dub.

Rayman Legends is a Wii U exclusive in Japan.

I would love these two to be true. I doubt they are, but it would make for a very promising port.

prove it. what M rated game you know is cheaper to produce than something like Just Dance which if we're being real is just lucky shovelware IMHO anyway
