Any chance your inside guy can spill the beans on resolution or anything like that?

Impossible to reach that level of detail, he works in QA, they are more concern with the game not crashing and working in general that pixel counting, in addition he is not directly involved with that project (but I do know who to blame if those AC games crash too often), he can only see videos of reported errors and status updates from the development team (practically on the same building), his latest update to me is "it looks very close to 360 version, it has improved a lot compared to the status from January when it was halted".

I wouldn't hold my breath for anything above 720p and (not close to stable)30FPS. They were able to make some small upgrades with AC4 on the Wii U, I expect the same to come from Watch Dogs.

The last gen version wasn't even 720p though, it was 648x1152. I'm hoping Wii U does better than that at least.

I thought the bigger issue was that PS3/360 load from HDD while Wii U has to stream everything from the disc, which is a lot slower.

Nop, the problem with the load times is the speed of the RAM available in the Wii U, the amount is bigger and they can play around with the eDRAM, but in general the speed of the RAM is between 1/2 and 2/3 of the one available on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and since is more it takes longer to fill up. The disc drive speed is actually the fastest...

"It’s not the capacity of the discs we’re interested in, though. It’s the read speed – quoted at 22.5MB/s. This is fast enough to ensure we’re not hobbled with slow, mandatory installs that ruin Nintendo’s ethos of ‘immediate gaming. To compare, PS3′s Blu Ray drive reads at 9MB/s. Fast loading times and no installs on Wii U, then. "

22MB/s is still a lot slower than streaming from a hard drive though. Either way, going from past ports, I always expected longer load times.

No that would not have been smart. The game was ALREADY pushed back twice. So yes it was very important for them to hit that date otherwise they would have lost sales. If your game isnt on the shelf it cant make money. Maybe they were scrapped for cash, maybe they did mismanage(hell the delays tell me they were mismanaged). The wii U version was going to be the worse selling by far anyone who thinks otherwise is lying ot themselves. So you might as well sacrifice the weakest link in the chaing anyway to maximize profits. So if they waited Watchdogs would have had stiffer competition in the fall/winter. So yes they did the best thing they could have did.

The original delay (from holiday 2013 till summer 2014) was related with the quality of the game, the engine was working, the gameplay was there, but it was boring as hell, a lot of the city was empty, and it had many bugs, if released on that state the average review was going to be around 60, not the 77 - 80 that it finally got, yes it was that bad, so they delay it for all consoles, in January things started to look a little better but they need manpower to release before June, and that is when the Wii U edition got sacrified, because of the poor sales of Splinter Cell and Black Flag.

you dont have to explain to me. I know tell it too these other guys that are in denial. But i dont think I agree with the reason why Wii U was sacrificed. They simply werent going to meet their May deadline if they wanted all to come out the same time. It was good move on their part and i dont think sales of other ubi games had much to do with it

All I'm saying is, AC3 on Wii U outsold Just Dance 4, and Black Flag outsold Skylanders Giants, so it's not like the M-rating is the overriding factor.

Early adopters are not usually the kind of players that buy Just Dance and Skylanders, the next year Skylanders did sold more than AC 3 and AC 4, and the same happened with Just Dance, but in the case of almost all Mature (or at least more adult oriented) games, the numbers instead of increased they went down.

None of Ubisoft's E-rated games on Wii U came close to M-rated ZombiU in sales though, not even critical darling Rayman Legends.

you're missing the point entirely it doesnt matter HOW much the E rated game sold or M rated one sold. not at all. All that matters is they MAKE money on the e rated gaems and they dont make money on the M rated ones. Doesnt matter what the gap is.  Lets get real AC SC Zombi U those are games that are way more expensive to produce than Just Dance. Even the ports. So the M rated games HAVE to sell a certain amount to be worth it. Where Just Dance doesnt, they dont even need to sell half a mil to see profit from that game.

Just Dance maybe, but it's not as simple as "M-rated = automatically more expensive". Porting an M-rated game like Assassin's Creed 3 was likely quite a bit less expensive  than making a ground-up E -rated title like Tropical Freeze.

whoa, you been holding this info back from us.

Did you know Nintendo is partially responsible for the Watch_Dogs port still coming to Wii U? Not kidding.

I couldn't risk compromising my insider. ;)

I can only share the information that my friend approves, sometimes I have more details sometimes I don't, it his job after all (and if we screw up his lawsuit)

It's good that you're careful not to risk your friend's livelihood. I'm just glad you've been able to tell us as much as you have, its been interesting.

Imagining this conversation taking place at Ubisoft greatly amuses me.

"Shit guys, we can't release the Wii U version of Watch_Dogs in the same week Mario Kart 8 comes out. We'll get buried."

"You're right, we better push it back a bit. In fact, what if we pushed it back all the way to the Holidays? Nintendo never releases big games the week before Black Friday."
