Didnt the 2K everything start on Dreamcast? The best console back then oh yea.

You're absolutely right. I had NBA 2k with Allen Iverson on the front. LOL I also had NFL Blitz and a few others. Talking about this is making me feel all nostalgic.

Good thing here is that all I have to do is turn on my tv in the spare room and turn on the Dreamcast. BAM!! I'm right back to the year 2000-2001. Dreamcast was huge in the military. We had all types of tournaments going then. Especially on the fighting games. I was a monster on 3rd Strike back then. Good times...

My Dreamcast is STILL in mint condition. I loved it so much that I bought 2 of them. One was stolen (when I was in the Air Force) and the other I never opened until last year. :) All of my games are in mint as well. The Dreamcast was so underrated, in my opinion. Had stellar games, yet it still sold poorly. I hated the PS2 for a long time because of it. Hahaha Then I ended up getting one.

Well anyway, still love my Dreamcast and hope one day Sega makes another console. HBD Dreamcast!!!

I hate to be the party pooper here but sales were fairly sub-par (in terms of the revenue Sega needed) up against the N64 and PS1 loooooong before the PS2 was released. It was pretty much the biggest botch in the Japanese market besides Xbox systems.

Nah sales were fine in Japan until PS2 was announced and we more than fine in NA. Considering that for a year after launch PS2 was nothing more than a glorified DVD player, I can see why some people may hate the PS2...

I'd hate game pirates more personally as they killed the game sales for the system.

1) You're probably thinking of the Saturn, honestly, it's presence was borderline non-existent in Japan.

2) If people were buying PS2s just to watch DVDs on it, it would've been a financial disaster for Sony, they cost about $500 to manufacture at launch and relied on licensed software to recoup. Maybe the games available were relatively average compared to what the PS2 had over the next 5 years, but it still would've been enough for Sony to get going.

3) I was one of those people who took advantage of the piracy. Before I'm slandered for that, I was also one of those people with my PS1. Go figure.

You have to realize that Sega were in overwhelming debts when they released the Dreamcast and needed DS-esque attach rates to get them back in the black. The fact that it couldn't even outsell the N64 left them with no choice but to pull the plug. No idea where you got this 'more than fine' rose-tinted sob story from.

There are lots of tidbits in there how Dreamcast was doing ok at first but PS2 killed it in Japan.

PS2 used as DVD player for the first year @ 13:50 of that video

Also sega wasn't in debt as much as much as you say. They just weren't profitable anymore and are not like Sony and Microsoft to have other parts of the business fund their gaming losses. Gaming was all Sega did and once that stopped making money they couldn't stay afloat.

Sony gaming division lost more in year 2000 with PS2 than Sega did with the Dreamcast that year. 463 million (sony) vs 163 million (sega)

I know this is a stupid idea, but personally I think it would be great if Sega re-released the Dreamcast for something like 99$, with a HD, HDMI wireless network, and digital-only downloads of their games. Then it would become a great console for developers to release new games on :).

Sounds suspiciously like PlayStation TV ;)
