You don't, it happens automatically when they are updated once in a blue moon.

It took about a year for my first badges to show up.

Yeah they're updated when ioi decides it's worth doing something to update them. It normally takes a few months but you'll get them eventually.

They get updated twice a year by the looks of it so probably in early 2015

Badges get updated only when this gentleman feels like updating them!
