Forums - Sales Discussion - European sales for HY 2014 (Watchdogs domination)

French gaming site Gamekult has compiled data from Gfk to establish a top 20 of the best selling games in Europe in the first half of 2014. The chart is in sold units order, but the data was originally in revenue order, so that's the 20 biggest revenues ordered differently. (bundles and digital not counted)

Highlights :

- WatchDogs made the biggest revenue, 5 times as much as MK8, the biggest Nintendo game

- 2013 games performed exceptionally well

- 3DS is (almost) a no-show

- as seen in the dynamic chart within the article, core IPs such as Assassin's Creed or CoD are flat or declining very little compared to the same period last year. Casual franchises on the other hand are taking a dive, with sales nearly halving.

Well... Watch dogs is already on price cuts and MK8 is still full price, so yeah... these things pan out over time. A small slice doesnt say as much as it would be ideal.
What it does say is that Watch Dogs sold more during the release period. That is probably the reason why FIFA grossed less even though it sold more. FIFA games beeing early lose value and go on the bargain bin pretty quickly.

Gran Turismo 6 sold almost half million in the first half of 2014? Wow, that was unexpected, guess the game is really undertracked in VGChartz.

What do you mean by the 3ds being a no show? Do you mean no 3ds exclusive game is on there? By this logic there is also no game unique to the Xbox1 or Xbox360. Especially when you consider that 17/20 games listed are multiplatform games.

I overlooked that, true. I was thinking about Yoshi's Island, Kirby, Mario Party, etc.

I've never seen a 3DS FIFA14 is stores though... I'll have a better look next week.

mario kart overtracked by 70k in Europe.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

That dig at MK8 is both senseless and unnecessary.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

"WatchDogs made the biggest revenue, 5 times as much as MK8, the biggest Nintendo game" That has nothing to do with MK8 being a WiiU exclusive and Watch_Dogs being a multiplatform game obviously!

Then compare 2 games on the same fight. MK is on one console at the time like 6.5m install base, Watchdogs on 5 with like 200m installbase. Do you think thats a resonable comparison, even though mario kart sold almost half worldwide being on the smallest installbase by a fartor of 30.
