Forums - Sony Discussion - Are games on my PS3 hard drive accessable to a potential buyer?

I've put my PS3 up for sale, and a potential buyer claims that all the games I've bought digitally are wothless to him because they are tied to my PSN user/account. I have no clue about how this works. Hopefully some of you can help me out, I'd hate to be ripped off.

And if digital purchases are tied to my account, I absolutely need to reconsider purchasing through PS Store in the future.

Unless you sell him your account he will not have long term access to the games. Welcome to the digital age, no refunds.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Seriously surprised that someone didn't know this! Digital games are tied to your account and without it someone else can't play those. You can always just sell him your account if you want someone else to get access to them! If not, then make sure you deactivate your account on the PS3 before you turn it off for the last time!

You'd prefer digital purchases be tied to hardware that can potentially fail?

Nah don't think that would be all that great. I'll be buying more boxed games in the future though.

not only would you have to give them your account, you or the other person cant even change the psn id........ sigh.......

As long as your account is on there and the games are already downloaded with it they should be playable for any other account as well.

This is the only correct answer in the thread, all others are wrong.

Just leave your "user" on the console, and change the password so that the new buyer cannot open it. Tell him that all the games downloaded via your account can be accessed by his own account as long as he:

a) doesn't delete that "user" account

b) doesn't delete any of the games, he will not be able to download them again.

If you still plan to use your own account, you can also go to SEN website and deactivate your account on that console (this can be only done once every 6 months). That way, you have complete control of your account, buyer cannot access it, but he can still play games if he meets those two criteria above.

That makes sense. Thanks

You are welcome.

Also, if you are buying games digitally in the future, I suggest buying each game on a separate account. You can still play them on your main account (each console supports up to 16 accounts), and when you're done with the game, you can resell it easily, thus making most of your money back. Digital downloads don't drop in price as much as discs.

EDIT: I also recommend changing the password (from the solution above) over the PC and not on the console. That way, your old console will not have any trace of your new password, should the new owner want to dig after it.
