Forums - Politics Discussion - Lazy Americans.....‘We’re a Movement Now': Fast Food Workers Strike in 150 Cities (edit) OP is poor, don't act like I am being all high and mighty!

My first over-the-table paying job was at Wendy's when I was 18. I quit after two weeks. I'm now working as a nurse making good money. I feel bad for them. Working fast food sucks ass.

That was my thought. These people feel their that their backs are against the wall, looking for a way out for them and their families... But fuck them, right?

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

If you are coming from a poor family, you have no chance to go to school because you have to struggle 24/7 with other serious and sometimes life-threatening issues, like mental illness, food, general safety, health problems, social problems, money and criminality. Often friends and family can make this situation even worse because they will get you deeper into the mess.

This may be hard to hard to imagine to someone coming from a more wealthy family but most of them would not survive 24 hours when being put into a poor man's life.

What is your problem? You really think that there is no college graduates working on this jobs rigth now? You are aware that some shifts take 12hrs standing with stupid costurmers without any benefit, like health insurance?

Working this much, including nitghs and holidays, its anything but laziness.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I don't understand America at all, but why did she say that they risked arrest. If it was being fired I would have agreed but arrested is kind of to harsh.

P.S: $7.50 per hour is not bad for that job, that is like 5.80 euro which is way above the 4.25 minnimun wage we have in our country.

All I'm going to say on the subject Spurgeonryan, is just make sure you NEVER tell anyone in that industry how you feel in person. Remember these are the people that handle your food.

All Hail the Jester King. The King is back, and I am still a dirty girl prof ;)

They shouldn't demand considerably higher wages- they'll be replaced by people who're willing to work for lower wages (ie. people still in school who just want some money on the side)

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
I worked in the fast food industry for a few years in high school. Made my way up from making the burgers to running the store all before graduation. Think on that for a minute. The industry we are talking about had no problem giving control of a store to a kid who couldn't legally do more than 45 hours a week, couldn't work past 11pm, and couldn't get to work before 3pm due to prior obligations.
Fast food jobs, by design, are not meant to be careers. They are meant to build career understanding. Time management, people skills, these are the things one builds at a place like Burger King before moving on to another job. The fact that people are "stuck" working these jobs to make ends meet is sad sure. However, I can't feel bad for the mother of five who is "forced" to work at BK to make ends meet. Probably should've planned your life better and not had 5 kids then.
To me this "movement" speaks to the pathetic entitled crowd of youth today that expects the world to work for them and not the other way around. You want more money? Go earn it at a better job. You can't do that? Stop getting my order wrong at a high percentage rate and I might start to feel for you.
That doesn't mean these people deserve almost double the current minimum wage.
I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.
