Would an EA console sell well?

YES, EA IS LOVE, EA IS LIFE 14 12.73%

NO, I HATE EA BECAUSE EVE... 61 55.45%

What's an EA? 23 20.91%

EA WILL MAKE NINTENDOOMED GO... doomed 12 10.91%

Total:110

This comes up every few months, and the answer is always the same. No. They would lose their sporting franchises, which are their bread and butter and they would slide into irrelevance and bankruptcy before the end of their first generation. EA knows this, which is why they've never done it.

This is pretty much the end of the discussion as far as I see it.

I'm still not even sure how they've managed to wiggle out of making Wii U games.

I wouldn't buy it, they just recently ruined the last franchise that i really liked from them so that's no for me.

No! It would crash and burn and I would be very happy because of that!

I am terrified at the very thought.

Could sell decently solely for the games BUT would be universally loathed for its lack of quality and pricing schemes.

The issue here is that early on, if they put say FIFA 15 on their own console, they'd exchange the millions they make every year for a lot less, not just some, a lot. They sell 5 million of it guaranteed but on one console which is new and has limited offerings, they'd be luck to reach a hundred thousand.

If the FIFA game also isn't widely available to the masses, FIFA may remove their licencing.

Hmm, pie.

EA Sports can not be exclusive.

They've excluded Nintendo pretty well enough.

They only have to put it out on viable systems (Their words/what's in the contract). So they would still have to put it out on a lot of systems besides their own.

To be significant competition they'd have to build a compelling product. Their games alone aren't enough.

They could do something like the steam box, but that would have to be niche product and released with very low expectations in mind. Not real competition to the big three. They could make a $800 windows console using their origin store so there's no cost of porting. Have a custom shell to cover the windows ui (That many people would remove). It wouldn't have much appeal but it might get a few more people to use origin and would be more powerful than a ps4 and using off the shelf hardware it would require very little R&D. On the off chance it does sell I'm sure many people would rig it to run steam, but as long a it's not sold at a loss then every sales still a win for them.

i think ea is perfectly fine with the hundreds of millions they make as a publisher

LOL nope!

they will just milk us for subs in a few years to play any of them.
