Good point green_sky. One thing I say is I fully expect social programs like Social Security to not exist when I am old or be reformed to point I won't see any of my money back. The earlier you plan and put away, the less you have to sacrifice along the way and still have a nice sum in the future.

I thought quite a lot about that, and I think that if social programs disappear... 1st it will not be planned 20 years before, it will be brutal. That means millions of poor searching for foods in the street, it will have a tremendous impact on the economy, on the employment rate, and we could be in a so much bad state that savings just die out of overinflation. 2nd, to come to the end of social programs disregarding the issues, it also means that countries and the economy are already in an extrem bad shape...

Not to say that I don't save... I'm saving 40~50%, but I'm still in doubt than money, and more than anything life insurance or private insurance are a safer bet than social programs.

Pretty nice spread of data now. I fully understand starving students as was there for that time in my life as well. Impressive though that so many put away at least 11%.
