So you're telling me a free game has more players than a game you have to pay for? Oh fuck, alert the media!

Well, One Chance is also a free game and it doesn't have more players than a game you have to pay for.

Long-term success > short-term fad

Nope cause Mario is still has the ability to make people spend money on a Console + Game in order to play it vs Angry Birds can't do shit if it wasn't free

No. I saw this thread on another site, but didn't bother to copy&paste it. I'll try to find it tho.

Even if you limit "Super Mario Bros." to the 2D platformer games I am gonna say no.

The term "franchise" though means so much more... Essentially everything legally Mario based. In other words all the games the Mario character is in (or other Mario-verse characters such as Luigi/Peach/Yoshi) with the possible exception of minor cameos (like Mario's face in OoT Hyrule Castle). But also all the other media featuring Mario as well... like toys, sweets, posters, music.

Sure Angry Birds has a big selection of toys etc too (I would even argue that over the last year it might have rivalled Mario in the toy and food industries, at least here, not sure about worldwide) but it hasn't been around for anywhere near as long.
