This is a fighting game and the last time I checked swordsmen are fighters. And from what i've seen they all play completely different, some of them just use the sword as a secondary weapon.

Link - Has an entire arsenel of different weapons

Ike - Strong, heavy sword figter

Marth - Quick, light swordman

Robin - Mainly uses magic

Shulk - The monado has a bunch of different techniques

Lucina - Probably the only odd one out since she's a straight sword fighter with nothing special

So why all the hate exactly? What would they prefer though? More troll characters that aren't even suppose to be in combat like the Wii Fit trainer?

Because people are humans. And humans like to complain about bullshit all the time.

Tbh how is Captain falcon any different from a sword fighter? He also has short range attacks.  If someone would use a pole instead of a sword people would also not complain.

I wouldn't have minded an axe or lance user as a FE rep.

But yeah, too many sword users really isn't an argument when they only make up 15% of the announced characters.

They're not complaining because theyre sword fighters, thats just the cover they use. They dont like them because it means characters from IPs theyve never get in and ones from more well known IPs are ignored. It's just selfish :P I've noticed besides Pokemon, a large amount of Nintendo fans dont really play RPGs*, so having a lot of RPG characters vs. (for examples sake) Wolf, Ridley, Mewtwo upsets them.

People, especially those on the internet, will find anything to complain about.

Just ignore them and move on.
