Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox one Biggest mistake

A $500 machine was never going to appeal to the sort of casual audience those exercise and workout programmes are aimed at. So it still would have failed. If MS wanted to recapture the audience that made Wii such a huge success they should have aimed xb one at the Wii U level of power and come in at $350 launch price with bundled Kinect. Instead they tried to mqkebangrqb for the core and casual audience and failed to get either. The core audience saw a better deal in the Ps4 and the casual audience is vapour early gen unless you launch a cheap console with a new and exciting gimmick. Kinect isn't new and Xb one isn't cheap.

The biggest mistake was to design a more expensive system with slower performance than PS4. The X1 production cost is still significantly higher because of the special memory used despite the overall system being a lot slower. So the X1 cannot really compete and Sony is able to make more profit with a smaller price and has much more room for price cuts.

The X1 design team failed miserably.

I don't think they made any 1 "biggest" mistake. It was the collective result of several fuck ups and PR shitstorms that lead to its present situation.

I see what you mean but I think it's biggest mistake is power.

The disparity in power doesn't really matter to the masses.

The reveal turned into a disaster and the $499 launch price was ridiculous. But in time people might forget about that. The PS3 was considered a disaster for a few years as well but they got it together.

Its present situation is a lot better then where it was at launch. I thought MS was going to be more stubborn but they've been more competitive than I anticipated.

I don't think that would've helped sales much.

They lacked focus on games which is what should of been first for a games console. They changed that now but it's already too late.

Focusing on trends instead of what people really wanted. Same reason the WiiU failed.

It is like those mobile companies that have a success and then tries to do the same thing over and over until they have to close down.

The biggest mistake was sticking with Kinect. Like Wii Motion, Kinect had run its course. A secondary error was allowing Bungie to go multi-plat. Halo is old news now, but Destiny is getting great hype.

In hindsight, the best strategy for XBox would probably have been to allow Sony to launch PS4 without competition last year. See the specs and 1-up them in every way. Keep Bungie under the MS umbrella, fund Destiny and launch XBox Infinity (the name One is also a stupid mistake) fall 2014 with Destiny exclusive. With a killer graphics card and more RAM than PS4, make Destiny a game that can't be done anywhere else. Price match with the weaker PS4 at $399. And with that, continue to be king of the American game market.

In the videogame world you need a killer game that everyone wants, a good price and the impression of being high-tech. One's power deficit to PS4 isn't a big deal, but the lack of a state-of-the-art, must-have image is.

PS4 has gotten by without a killer app, but mostly because the launch of both One and U were debacles.

Everething gets resumed to price.

Power, Kinect, DRM, always online, etc... nothing that would matter if the price was more attrative.

It will get there, but unfortunaly the XOne lost its inovation edge.

Gamers wanted the same thing they´ve known for 25 years. And know they got it on both platforms. Almost everything has the same strutcure of last gen.

I realy wonder if the PS4 will have the same momentun in the next few years, if Sony doesn´t add up new features.

It is almost as if Apple had gone back to dumb phones after the iPhone 1 and 2 (and 3?) low market share against giants like Nokia and Motorola.
