Forums - Sony Discussion - So is PS4 "saved" in Japan?

Theres a lot of Nintendo fans in here that have always trashed the PS4, good lord there's a ton. PS4 is going to do amazing now, sorry but Wii U (while it's still good and I still plan to get one) had its run. Persona 5 is the most anticipated game that Japanese gamers have voted for in Famitsu, look it up. The list of games in Japan is crazy.

Final Fantasy 15 (top 5 most anticipated in Famitsu voted by gamers, and its final fantasy, it always moves consoles)
Kingdom Hearts 3 (top 5 most anticipated in Famistu by gamers)
Persona 5
Yakuza 0
God Eater 2 (500k in one week on Vita)
Dragon Quest Heroes
Bloodborne
Metal Gear Solid TPP
Gundam
Senran Kagura
Deep Down
Final Fantasy Type 0

If you truly believe that this will not move consoles at all then your delusional and are in denial.

I call BS on this comment. In Japan the PS4 is stragling behind the Wii U, both of which are stragling behind the Vita. All three of those well behind the 3DS. Considering Nintendo consoles over there has it's own Dragon Quest series, it also has the main Monster Hunter series (which is exclusive to Nintendo platforms and not referring to the spin-offs like Frontier). Nintendo is releasing a portable, and significantly faster and better 3DS model over there. I'm going to hazard a guess and assume that home console sales will dip a lot in a country that is mostly portable gamers. Plus it's releasing with Xenoblade Chronicles

The only thing that helps Sony platforms it seems are traditional JRPGs and hack 'n' slash games. But I'm afraid you are dilusional here. Sony won't be selling millions more in Japan, no way in hell that is possible. Like Soundwave said,"It'll boost the baseline sure, but nothing is saving the console business over there."

I would say its looking good. It might be able to outsell the Wii U now.

But, most of all... i am very happy that i have a PS4 atm. There are several new gamee in that list that i want, and my ps4 had been in need of this software support since its been gathering dust. Finally the new gen is starting to land.

I'm not even sure if you combined the Wii U + PS4 libraries together you'd even crack a baseline of 20k on the regular.

Japan is *that* fargone. The 3DS has basically replaced "consoles" and iPhone/Android have replaced everything else.

I think there's going to be a resurgence. It seems like handhelds are losing support (both Vita and 3DS are getting trickles of games) from Japan. If that support dries up, then its going to be a fight between phones and consoles (PS4 if this lineup helps). I think this may be the turning point for Japan. If the PS4 fails here, then say good bye to dedicated game machines.

Don't forget deep down, I think the Japanese are going to love that game.

3-4 exclusives won't save it.

It will make it, with more on the way, the best selling home console in JP, and that's what Sony wants.

The problem is a lot of it is on the ps3/vita. While it is smarter, it doesn't necessary carry over the fanbase as well as an exclusive.

I'm not sure there are enough larger Japanese franchises to save PS4 in that region. PS3 had almost all of the major franchises that aren't Nintendo's and it still performed abysmally in relation to any previous gen Playstation in Japan.

Most of these announcements include PS4 but are on more popular systems in Japan so I'm not sure they will provide quite the shot in the arm most are expecting.

Where is Deep Down?

Much better selection of games for the Japanese & I expect the baseline to increase too. I wonder how many of these will get localized though.
