It will be interesting to see how forward thinking the Japanese are. I wonder if any of these announcements will increase sales of the PS4 this Christmas (yes I know the Japanese don't celebrate in the same way we do but they get a tax rebate ... I think) beyond what it would have been before these announcements.

I don't know why people thought PS4 would be dead in Japan just because it's not selling as much as the Wii U there. A system that has been out longer btw, selective memory I guess. But no PS4 will do fine, better than fine in the long run!

Dead?  No people expected it to do very well especially after what it did in the West, the idea that we would have weeks and months that PS4 would sell worse than Wii U in Japan was the worst case scenario..

"saved" is relative my friend. I never once said it's going to revitalize the console business in Japan. But if PS4 can go from a 5k baseline to 15-20k would that not be a worthwhile improvement?

This is definitely a good start if they want to reach the height of PS3. It will take a lot more to push beyond that 10mil though

I think the PS4 will be able to sell AT LEAST 8 million consoles in Japan when all is said and done. So even though there is a decline, the system will still do respectable numbers.

No way FFXV is coming out this year...well there is like a 40% chance.
The Exclusives it has next year should finally shift some more PS4s, but I feel like Sony should actually wean Japan off the PS3 a little.

I don't think even a 15-20k baseline is achievable in Japan anymore. For a console to being doing "good" in Japan it's going to mean a baseline around 10k. 

Which I think both PS4 and Wii U will struggle to achieve. 10k/week on the regular might be asking a lot this gen for any console in Japan.
