With an average baseline (which ignores peaks and downslopes which are not baseline, marked in bold-italics) of: 65.7k

So I was off by 5k. Sue me?

Its a small difference but the point doesn't change. The PS3 had a baseline of more than double the WiiU in the first year at a much, much higher price. The WiiU can't even manage that baseline now, after the biggest game it will ever have (in terms of boosting sales) has released. While it could still improve it will not do it to anywhere near the scale of the PS3. I can't see it beating Gamecube

It could be like the 3DS?

Pocky Lover Boy!

Since by late bloomer you think 50+ mil - no way. It will keep on selling better and better, but will struggle to outsell GCN.

You can't compare Wii U to PS3. Such comparisons is just grasping at straws. PS3 was a state-of-the-art console, the most powerful one on the market and very, very expensive. Many people were like "I want one, but I can't afford it now, so I'll wait 2-3 years". And so they did, that's why the console bloomed later on, cause after these 2-3 years it still was the most powerful and advance console on the market. No such thing is correct for Wii U. It has been outdated the day they announced it, it's the cheapest console of its generation (though only slightly), so everyone who may want it, can get it.

And the final nail in the coffin is the departure of 3rd parties. 50 mil is absurd. A steady improvement? It's a given, but GCN numbers will be a success at this point.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

By the way the poll results are telling.

No 3rd party = wiiu will lack not only the major titles like GTA ASscreed COD Battlefield and all the sports games. But it means it ill always lack variety, its all ninty type games nothing much else. It has no ability to bloom late into anything else as its pretty much a product for ninty fanboys and small number of the hardcore gamer that buy into all gaming options.

Lack of 3rd party should end any logical debate, anything else really is arguing hopes and dreams.

As of this week, the U is standing at 7.1m units sold lifetime, and the PS4 at 10.1m. Despite all the claims of it being a dreamcast, a gamecube, a sub-gamecube, a disaster, a departure from the Wii, proof that the Wii was a fad, and so on and so forth, why is it not just possible that the U is a late bloomer much like the 360 and PS3 were last generation?

Of course it's possible. But the chances for that aren't very high.

The cube had 3rd party, it doesn't mean anything for Nintendo consoles, never has except for the SNES. 3rd party support =/= sales for a Nintendo console.

The poll is telling that your argument may be broken. Think about it.

Its telling how pro ninty vg is while many try to deny it, this palce is nintendo haven.

Yes it did ad it did pretty bad.  Wiiu will never even passs GC sales numbers.

If Nintendo support it like crazy from now on it could get close to 30m.

Late bloomers are rare in technology but it is possible. I just believe the lack of third party games is going to be the Wii U's biggest problem. That's especially true once PS360 are both phased out.

People don't consider it because there's no good reason to believe it can get there. It's in the realm of possibility, but Nintendo's biggest selling franchises have already released on the console. You're also comparing PS3 launch year to Wii U's second year. That's not a honest comparison, especially whenever you expect 2nd year >>> 1st year by a lot.

How do you know 3rd party didn't mean anything for Nintendo consoles? Do we know how much of the software sales for N64 and GameCube were first party and how much of them were third party? Do we know the hardware sales N64 and GameCube would have had without 3rd party support?

@Conina. Oh you. Had we pulled that one in 2006 for the PS3, I think you would have cried

I don't think so... I was happy that year with my PC, 360 and GC games.
