Forums - Gaming Discussion - I don't know why people think Smash will do wonders for the Wii U.

Mario Kart is Nintendo's biggest franchise and has almost 3 times the fanbase of Smash and Mario Kart Wii U sold only 2.5 million.  What makes you think it will give the Wii U a significant boost? Despite there being almost no games for xbox and ps4 during the summer (also known as the summer drought) it couldn't beat ps4 and it did slightly better than xbox one.  I don't understand why some people are thinking it help Wii U out sell Xbox One during the holidays when Xbox One and PS4 releases are Fifa, Destiny,COD, MCC, Forza, Sunset Overdrive, Unity, Far Cry 4,Drive Club ,little big planet and more. Not only this, but North America Favors Xbox and Playstation and North America buys the most products during the holidays. Maybe I am missing something.

I know plenty of people who are more excited for Smash. I've got the bundle pre-ordered but already got it when I found it for $200 refurbished (though I'm convinced it was brand new after opening it) through Nintendo with a solid library.

Difference between MK+SSB.

MK >>> SSB in terms of sales but SSB >>> MK as a system seller.

Many MK8 owners already had a wiiu, but SSB is not the same. Many are actually waiting intill Smash Drops to pick up a wiiu.

Look at the GameCube. Smash sold more than Mario Kart because more hardcore fans bought the GameCube. The Wii had Mario Kart sell significantly more than Smash, but that had a lot of casuals on it. Wii U now is following the steps of the GameCube attracting the hard core fans of Nintendo, and Smash will definitely get a lot of people on it

Any reason you are saying that?  From my experience at best buy, it sure seemed like mario kart moved a heck of a lot more wiis than smash...

Cause Smash as always been a system seller and there are many fans that have been waiting for smash bros to get released before buying a wiiu

It sold 12k more with an extra year and a half on the market when compared to double dash...

I think nobody is saying that Wii U will outsell PS4bone with Smash. What people are saying is that Wii U (pre Smash) <<<<<< Wii U (post Smash)

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Only by 12k, so you're saying smash will sell about 3 million? That won't mean much at all. Especially a lot of the people who wanted smash already bought a wii u because of mario kart or such.

MK is more of a casual game and since WiiU isn't that interesting to casuals compared to the Wii it has fallen a lot from the previous generation. I expect Smash to due quite well for itself due to mostly selling to hardcore gamers, although Wii Smash definitely sold to some casuals as well so it will be down at least 50% on last gen.
