Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why so much hate for the "New" Nintendo 3ds???

The hate is coming from non-Nintendo fans primarily.

I've seen many Nintendo fans hate on the New 3DS though... :S

Because it's anti consumer. Nothing wrong with a revision, great even, but making it play games the previous versions can not is a middle finger to your supporters.

So GBC was middle fingering you ?

Ah good times when I bought my GBC  with Wario Land 3, that my  friends couldn't run on their gameboys.

DSi was pretty useless despite having a few exclusives, so people probably didn't mind much. But this isn't new and it is a smart move.
Besides, it's not aimed at everyone, casual won't give a fuck about it, and most games will still be made for standard 3DS. But having core games requiring more power makes sense, yeah you need to invest again on the console to play a remake(as for now it's the only game exclusive we have revealed I think.) that doesn't feel right, gamers who've been told they've been missing a great game on Wii might go for this, and "harcore"(I really don't dig that term) games might find their more easily with an upgraded CPU...it is true the CPU is struggling on some current games.

I would have actually love that they upgrade the GPU...Xeno doesn't look that great, it just..."runs".

It's confusing! It looks like a 3DS, it's called a 3DS...but it's not...quite a 3DS. Or is it? I don't know! Why are there more buttons? For new games! What about my old 3DS? Will it get those games? No. So it isn't a 3DS, then? Oh, it is! But not really?

It's likely not powerful enough to be considered a new generation of handheld. And yet, it has hardware functions that are not available on the old 3DS. As a result, the prospect for exclusive content appears extremely limited, as it would alienate current 3DS owners without providing a clear reason to upgrade. And then there's that name: "New 3DS." Just when we though Nintendo's marketing department couldn't possibly get any worse, they drop that on us. I can hardly figure out what their strategy is here except "boost hardware sales to satisfy investors." It feels more like a quick cash-in than a legitimate revision.

That's why it gets hate.  Nobody is quite sure what to make of it.

It's pretty obvious where Nintendo got the name from:

Yea cause Apple totally started putting new infront of their products before Nintendo right?

For hardware it's pretty obvious where the inspiration comes from.

Besides Nintendo has a pretty long history of copying/mimicking Apple's hardware.

The Funtastic N64s aped the iMac of the late 90s, the DS Lite and Wii asthetic is taken from the iPod.

I don't get the GBC as a legitimate excuse... GBC came out how many years after the original? 9? 10?

Plus the 3DS has had a few revisions in it's own right. XL, and then the 2DS. So it's not like it's been that much from like the 2DS launch until now.

I don't understand how people could defend such a move? I get supporting a company you love, but not when they intend to outright rob you! How would you feel if all 3 did this?

Shrugs, not my problem if you don't want to believe it. I actually was around during the N64 era (and the NES and SNES era for that matter).

All handhelds get revisions, generally at least 3 per hardware cycle. Even the Sony ones. Like seriously enough with the faux outrage.

I could've told you that a 3DSi + 3DSi XL was coming out this year (which is basically what this is) months ago.
