I don't see this as a fair comparison. The new 3ds has new buttons (zr, zl, right analog nub) which will be very important for controlling the few exclusives this hardware will get.
Remember when the original playstation launched? The controller didn't have analog sticks! The analog sticks were added later on, and you had to buy the analog controller to control the games that needed them, or u couldn't play those games.
This will be the only time Nintendo ever does this. They learned their lesson, when they release their next gen handheld hardware it will have the same number of controller inputs as a home console. They held back the 3ds by only giving it one analog nub.
