Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Hive Jump - 4-player run-and-gun 2D platforming action for Wii U

HIVE JUMP

A sci-fi action platformer for 1-4 players blending run-and-gun gameplay with strategic campaigns.

Will the Wii U version have special features specific to the platform?

Yes. The Wii U version will be more than just a port. It will have special features leveraging the unique aspects of the platform. We will reveal more at a later date.

Will there be online co-op for Wii U?

Its definitely a goal of ours to try and get online co-op running on the Wii. But in all fairness, we're still working through the details of that decision. We want the Wii U to be more than just a simple port - we want it to be unique to the platform and take advantage of its special features - we're working through some of those high level decisions now, but there will certainly have to be some of those challenges that we'll have to tackle in the field.

DAYUM!
I love games like these.
I'm really glad that some indie devs are making Metroidvania games. Such an underappreciated genre. Sigh.

EDIT: Procedurally generated? Aww come on!

Six days for $16k? Seems possible.

It definitely has a great art-style.

PAX PRIME in sunny Seattle, WA.  We enlisted some help to get things up and running on the show floor - and are happy to have Houston Brayton (who runs our Wii U partner Black Lantern Studios) and Ryan Baker who is a close friend and vision director at PIxelscopic (Delver's Drop) sharing the booth with us!

Behind the camera is Hive Jump designer Matt Donatelli who, along with Houston will be sharing Hive Jump with over 50,000 conference attendees over the next 4 days! Follow Matt on twitter @mattdonatelli!

The people behind Hex Heroes, another Kickstarter, sent out an email recently about this game. It looks like a lot of fun. The idea of mixing fast-paced run-and-gun action with turn-based strategy sounds very promising.

I do think that the term "metroidvania" has been misused in the OP.  I have checked the page and see nothing than suggests anything close to a "metroidvania."  Anyone with insight regarding this?  this term is definitely being thrown around too loosely these days.  For it to be a "metroidvania" you need to be able to go anywhere in the world right from the start, assuming you have the right ability.  Procedurally generated levels are by definition not "metroidvanias" for instance.

From the page:

Gameplay

Hive Jump is one part Spelunky, one part XCOM, and all parts alien ass-kicking. You and your friends assume the role of JUMPERS, and blast your way through subterranean alien hives in run-and-gun 2D platforming action. Kill aliens, avoid traps, collect resources, and defeat the hive queen lurking at the bottom of the hive to complete the JUMP.

I've bolded what the correct genre should be labeled as...not that it isn't a mixture of other things as well.  The only "metroid-ness" I see is in the graphic design.

OK, will change. Was not sure about the definition of metroidvania. Thanks!

Awesome...glad to help.  And bummed that the title you listed isn't a MetroidVania...I love those kind of games.

This game looks pretty cool, so consider me interested!
