Forums - Politics Discussion - (Debunked) ICE BUCKET FRAUD

The wages are not extremely high, considering the ammount of money that goes through their hands and the size of the foundation they are managing. Maybe a bit too much for a charitable organization, immoral even, but still... yeah.

Welcome.. To charity.

I can understand why a glance at some of these stats could shock some people.

But think about what's being complained about: money is being used to pay people to run the charity (which may be a pretty big organisation). That seems like a waste, an extravagance - we donate good money to help sick people and hundreds of thousands a year pay for some CEO, CFO etc. to get a pretty high wage. So scrap the high wages for executives - pay nothing, or a much smaller amount. Then who will run the organisation? Probably not those guys - unless they are one of the few people who are willing to dedicate their work to something and give up making a good living just because it's for a good cause.

Or even if not the executive salaries / overheads, think about that 27% that is acceptable to people - the research. What does that money actually go into? Research, obviously, which is good. But how does money translate into research? Equipment and materials, sure, but the biggest part of that money is going towards people - doctors, lab assistants, whatever. How is your good ice bucket challenge money helping when it's really just allowing some doctor pay for his car, his house, his holiday? All because he is so selfish he won't do the research for poor pay.

Also, perhaps the most obvious point, that chart is for last year's expenditure. That 100 million just raised is 4 times higher than the entire expenditure last year, and there's no reason to assume that the breakdown of how it is spent will be exactly the same as last year's expenditure break down... if we come back and find that executives salaries have increased from a couple of hundred thousand to 10 million apeice, then we can start complaining.

Those salaries are considered "out-of-this-WORLD"? Yikes.

If these numbers surprise anyone, they've been living in a dream world til now.

I bet all those guys will see an impressive 900% (or something ridicule like that ) pay raise by next year due to the success of the ice bucket challenge

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

ICE BUCKET FRAUD: ALS FOUNDATION ADMITS THAT 73% OF DONATIONS ARE NOT USED FOR ALS RESEARCH

Posted by Staff on August 28, 2014

We've been duped. America is filled with fun-loving and caring people. The viral ice bucket challenge has combined both our sense of responsibility to our fellow human with fun. And it has been fun! Who didn't love seeing Sarah Palin doused?

But wait? Ice Bucket Challenge donations are nearing $100 MILLION. Where is that money going?

According to the ALS Foundation, not towards ALS.

Over 73% of all donations raised are going to fundraising, overhead, executive salaries, and external donations. Less than 27% is actually used for the purpose we donated for.

According to the ECFA, a charitable watchdog, 27% of donations actually making it to the cause they are donated to is unacceptable. In fact, the ECFA won't deem a non-profit as a reliable charity unless at least 80% of donations make it to their intended projects.

Here's the breakdown of the ALS Foundation's Financials:

  • Patrick Wildman – Director of Public Policy – $112,358.00
  • Kathi Kromer – Director of State Advocacy – $110,661.00

The ALS Foundation is a terrible organization to send your money.

If you decide to take the Ice Bucket Challenge, may I humbly suggest that you select a well-researched charity (on your own, no endorsements here) and send it to them.

I personally have written a check to a small organization in Texas which gives food to homeless children and teens.

And that's my thought for the day. Take it for what you will.

Is this some kind of joke?

93% of the donations are going to the fight against ALS and support of ALS patients, only 7% is going towards overhead. Those salaries are incredibly low for the executives at a medical specialist firm.

In addition, this is based on last year's budget, that 93% will grow to a larger number this year.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I've known this for a while lol

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

It still looks like 93% of the donations are going to the fight against ALS and support of ALS patients. Also, I am unsure if you are joking or not, those salaries are incredibly low for a massive organization. If you convert the salaries of people working at my bank to USD, the non-management people gross around as much as the executives of this foundation.

Aye, it's just 7% administration from a corporation, I think either the OP didn't read what he was quoting before making the thread or he was joking with the thread title? The caps makes me think it was the latter.
