Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tablets are lightyears behind consoles.

In effect, this is my response to this article/video:

http://n4g.com/news/1575293/bioshock-on-the-iphone-shows-how-close-mobile-is-to-consoles

I am getting sick and tired of hearing "It is just a matter of time before tablets match consoles."  Could they some day match consoles?  I guess, but nothing currently indicates they are close.  In fact, Bioshock on iOS only succeeds in showing how painfully behind they are.  The iOS version of BS looks quite noticably worth than a version on a 9 YEAR OLD CONSOLE.  That is nearly a decade people!!!

Not only that, but the PS4 is roughly 10-15x stronger than the 360.  Good luck making up that ground before the PS5 is out.

You just don't want that they close the gap, first of all 5-6 years ago people had problems with running games like Final Fantasy or Chrono trigger and those were NES/SNES games, today you have games that almost reach last gen quality and I would consider that closing gap. I also want to remind you it is not just the new phones/tablets that it works on, it even works on the Iphone 5 and that thing is around 2 years old.. Iphone 6 probably will get announced in less than two weeks and it could potentially play last gen games quality wise...

This statement doesn't make much sense. I've been playing emulated SNES/NES games back during the late 90s...

On your phone? Because I remember Iphone 3G and under could not play or handle Chrono Trigger and that thing is 5-6 years old?

On your phone?

This is why your statement didn't make much sense. Smart Phones didn't become popular until 4 years ago. Even then, the Nokia
N-Gage was capable of running NES and SNES games via emulation, and that phone came out well over a decade ago.

I keep reading this as tables are light years behind consoles and I'm like well duh...

But seriously, I can't see tablets catching up any time soon.

Yeah but that was the N-Gage it was meant to be a gaming device aswell, smartphones today don't advertise themself as a gaming device it is just a thing that also plays games.

Yep, but keep in mind in reality the tablet gamer and console gamer are two opposite ends of the gaming spectrum.

Yeah, but that was back in 2003. Fast forward 7 - 8 years from then. Now you're saying phones were struggling with emulators? That really was never the case. There was more power found in the iPhone than there ever was in the N-Gage.
