Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have Single player games be come a thing of the past?

Hello VGC family! Hope everyone is well!

I have a question for you all....what happened to the industry? Why does it seem like games are being looked down on if they do no have some type of co-op/MP now a day? I have been gaming for 25+ years and some of THE BEST games I have played have been SP games. Like Castlevania SOTN just to give an example and it is a game I would replay again in a heart beat. So why do some people seem to automatically  take points from a game if it is only SP and say it has no replayability?

Does a game HAVE to have some type of co-op/MP for it to be worth it to you? Does it make a game better or worse? Does it play a big part in what games you decide to play or buy? It is just something that has bothering for a while so I figured I would get some of your opinions on that matter! Looking forward to some good discussions on the matter!

Well... Only single player games are kinda getting lower but a lot of games have a great single player but they got some sort of either tacked on multiplayer or coop or a good multiplayer

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

some companies have been trying to do that
thankfully it hasn't happened and i hope it never will
i'll always favor SP gaming and that goes for all genres

Well i'm hoping all this social stuff is just a phase.. I really don't want the rest of the world know i'm gaming.. People don't bother me with their hobbies so i shouldn't bother them.. Except those fitness freaks.. They always post they just run 20k while i'm eating a burger or something like that.. I hate them

Yeah genre does play a part indeed. But even some FPS games with no MP have been great Bioshock for example. Amazing game that had no SP. So not even FPS game HAVE to have MP. I think the ONLY games that HAVE To have MP are fighting games.

Also yah true most games do get some type of tacked on MP on even SP now a day. Which is something that I find neither good nor bad if that makes sense lol.

I like SP games more than MP, but I still play a lot of MP on shooters mostly. Single Player campaigns are awesome and can provide plenty of replay value if the game is good, or has more than one ending. ME3 is a good example of that.

I actually wouldn't buy a racing game without MP anymore.. I still would buy a FPS like Bioshock but a racing game? Nope.. Can't see myself racing against the computer..

It has always been the same, most gamers just don't love single player like most COD don't complete the SP or even not touch it... In the Nes days it was not only about playing games alone most of us would spend weekends playing games with friends together;.Mario...Contra..Micro machines...and so on..

Recently, single player games are the only thing I'm playing.
I stopped playing multiplayer games after I realized that I didn't like the idea of doing the same thing over and over again, without end, and not really accomplishing very much. Single player games give me a more memorable experience and tells a story. And when I beat it, it's finished and off of my backlog, and I can move to another game. When I play multiplayer game like Battlefield, although I enjoy it, I'm not getting any closer to beating the game and taking time away from playing a game with a satisfying story, or trying something outside my comfort zones, or what have you.

 Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
