Forums - Nintendo Discussion - You Can't Count Nintendo Out, Says Activision CEO

"They've been through rough hardware cycles before"

We all know the Wii U is struggling right now, but Nintendo still has plenty of tricks up its sleeve — yesterday's Mario Kart 8 DLC announcement being proof of that — and it would appear that the wider industry feels the same way, too.

Speaking to Examiner, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has warned against writing off the Japanese firm too soon:

They are obviously not off to the start they've probably hoped they would've had with the Wii U, but they also have some of the world's best IP and some of the world's best game makers. I've always said they've been through rough hardware cycles before, but when you have the kind of game makers and beloved IP like they do, you can't count [Nintendo] out for the long-term.

Activision is one of the biggest publishers out there, and is continuing to support Nintendo platforms with the likes of Skylanders Trap Team, which is coming to the 3DS, Wii and Wii U.

guess some got to take what little is given to them.

There seems to have been a spate of these articles lately, like all of a sudden it's become cool among developers to like Nintendo again.

Put your money where your mouth is, I say.

What will truly annoy me though is if they start to say I told you so 2-3 years from now, as though they had something to do with the WiiU 's (unlikely) comeback.

is this the next ice bucket challenge?

were 3rd party CEOs secretly challenge each other to say something nice about Nintendo.

Well. They are supporting Nintendo with games they feel makes sense - Disney with Infinity, Activision with Skylanders, WBGames with Lego games, Ubisoft with Just Dance and some future Skylanders rip off..

It just is what it is. After the smart toy market blows up for real, expect EA to go back to supporting Nintendo with their own smart toy line.
