Forums - PC Discussion - Are desktop pc's becoming a thing of the past?

I go to walmart and bestbuy all the time and there desktop section is really small nowadays. the majority of there inventory seems to be all in on pc's and laptops and tablets. Are all these mobile devices killing the traditional desktop Pc's? Hell,I'm typing on a desktop pc right now! Does anybody else out there, still have a non mobile pc? Just something I've been thinking about.

that's a good thing, nobody should go up and buy one of those...

build your own. or pick parts and have the store build it.

pre builts are awful.

Nah.

Only pre-built ones. There's a huge move for portability and flexibility as the tech becomes "good enough" for 95%+ of the market. No need for a bulky desktop when your laptop can do all that and be carried wherever.

I built a PC a few years ago and have about 20 steam games installed and running great. It's amazing for gaming and doing a lot, but I can't exactly take it anywhere.

I think so. to me at least. I use a notebook. Work offices still use it here in Brazil.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Yep they are. They only sold well because there was no alternative for a long time and laptops too expensive. But then tablets happened and the majority didn't need them anymore.

Their only use now is for workstations and core gaming. They're not gonna die out but they will soon become niche in private households.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I mean im typing on a Desktop that I built for gaming, but it is true that people like Laptops more than desktops these days. Society is moving towards a future that is all portable everything. I would rather have a laptop than a desktop myself, however, the only reason holding me back is because they are no where near as powerful compared to desktops for gaming. If there is ever a slim laptop like the Razer Blade, with specs that you can upgrade as time goes on, then I will get into laptop gaming. Until then, I will stick to my lovely desktop

Not any time soon no. They are losing market share but we are still looking at over a hundred million units per year.

Becom....ing? lol

Tablets are killing laptops. Laptops are killing desktops. Desktops are killing typewriters. Typewriters are killing pens, but pens are selling at record numbers so I have no idea what's going on here.
