That argument could almost be made, IF the Battle Mode didn't suck complete fucking ass. But it does, it was a lazy, unthought-out, tacked on afterthought. EVERY other MK game ever has had Battle Arenas. Even shitty Double Dash, and even Wii had awesome arenas, even if the "team only" thing made it suck.

So until they "Fix" that by adding even ONE real arena stage (see: Block Fort), then MK64 is still the best MK ever made.

I've only owned 7 and 8, but I've played Wii and DD with my friends'. 8 is by far my favorite.

Love the game, but in no way is the newer ones superior to the first. Why? Because it's all luck. You can race like a champ, perfectly flawless for three laps of the race and then have some kid in 10th throw a blue shell and blow your ass up two feet from the finish line. There is no way for the player to win every single time because even the most skilled people can't stop the random luck that happens for other races or the CPU.

In the first MK, if you were skilled, you could win everytime. That's why that is the best imo. 

Yes, only thing MkWii did better was the roster but with the DLC where can you play AS LINK AND VILLAGER makes this easily my fav mk, never cared for battle mode so i really dont mind it being ruined

Easily the best! Driving mechanics, vehicle customisation, character roster (although some questionable characters *cough Pink gold Peach cough*), track design etc.
The anti-gravity added more to the gameplay than I ever expected it would, even a friend of mine bought the game, and he generally has no interest in Mario Kart.

The character DLC was expected, however I thought it would have Diddy Kong, Birdo and Dry Bones.

Now that we have two announced DLC packs, which includes characters, vehicles and new tracks; I can see them releasing two more in order to create a whole new grand prix.

One of which I predict to be a Donkey Kong pack featuring Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and maybe Cranky or Funky. This may even help promote Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in the process.

All we need now is Battle Mode DLC. Please dear god.

...Then they can bring back Diddy Kong Racing, the king of karts.

Since I don't care at all about Battle Mode (I literally haven't played a single battle mode game on MK8) then I would say yes, this is my favorite Mario Kart.
