Forums - Gaming Discussion - PSVita x Kinect 2.0: Which is the best peripheral?

Started thinking about this after reading the new official price for the kinect 2.0. While some may think it would be better to compare it with the PS Camera, the prices are so different that i believe they are at a draw when it goes to cost-benefit (PS Camera is worst, but it is only $60)

On the other hand, when we compare it to the Vita we have 2 peripherals of similar price ($200 x $150) and very unique capabilities. I will list their uses, but it is possible that i forget something.

I will not add a poll in the first moment, because i don't think that would be a good indicator. Instead, i would like to see your opinions and arguments.

PSV --- $200

PS+ Free Games (If you have it/would have it)
Off-Screen/Remote Play
  • Latency 0 with direct connection, but really small range
  • 50 foot range limit on same network; Low latency if PS4 is on Hard line and PSVita on Wi-Fi
  • Remote Play off home; Noticable lag; depends a lot of the connections
It work as an additional controller (Makes up for $60)
Proprietary memory card (each cost $40/32GB)

KINECT 2.0 --- $150

Allow you to input commands without a controller
Allow you to play motion based games
Allow you to input commands through voice
Field of view: 70o horizontal, 60o vertical
1080p Resolution Camera
4 channel microphone array
Video Calls
Active IR (detect you in the dark)
3D Full Body Tracking

As much as Sony themselves are trying to downplay Vita as just a peripheral, it certainly is not only that.
The poor thing was actually developed as a handheld device.

There is really no sense in comparing the two, as they practically have nothing in common.

EDIT: Also, I don't think PSCamera is that horrible that it cannot be compared to Kinect, even though it's almost $100 cheaper.

Not a good comparison at all but there is never 0 latency with wireless connection and the price for vita card 32GB is way higher at least in Germany. it is close to 80€.

Are you serious?

Vita, because PS4 is better

The price is not so off. It is true that they are very different, but that doesn't mean we can't compare them.

I believe my question is:
Each has their own unique capabilities. If you could buy both for your console, which would be your priority?

You still don't understand.

You don't buy Vita "for your console". It's a standalone handheld you can play Vita games on wherever you are.

Kinect is a peripheral that requires a console to work.

Comparison based only on price makes no sense at all, you might as well compare Kinect and a microwave...

Vita obviously cause as little amount of games it has, those games are far more enjoyable than anything for Kinect

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

That is like comparing handheld sales with home console sales. Nobody would ever do that.

Oh wait...

In a parallel world in wich devs would lmake use of kinect functionnalities, and I'm lazy enough to spend 200$ to go from the couch to my bed, I'd probably take the vita, because the psplus offer is really good. It's like, it's a peripheral and at the same time almost a console lol
