Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'm Starting To Feel Zelda U Isn't Coming Until 2016

I think you over-estimate Nintendo's overall software strategy, and your opinion that Fusion is the future. Zelda will launch and release whenever the team can finish it, and when it can make the most money. Most likely, that's Christmas 2015. If it's delayed, it's because it's not ready. It will have nothing to do with wanting to TP it.

Beyond that I'm not even that confident that Aonuma's team can even finish Zelda U for November 2015. It sounds to me like given open world nature of the game and it being the first true HD Zelda, that the dev time here is probably going to have to be longer than TP or Skyward Sword.

That would be true if they had the same amount of people working on this as TP or SS, but Nintendo has its biggest team ever working on this game, so they can get it out in time.

I wouldn't count my chickens before they hatch. Pretty much all Wii U projects have bigger teams than Wii/GCN counterparts, that just goes without saying. 3D World has a bigger team than any 3D Mario, NSMBU had a bigger team than any 2D Mario, Mario Kart 8 had the largest team of any Mario Kart game.

I didn't just saying its got a larger team than TP or SS, Its got the largest team EVER for Nintendo, for any game.

Kind of a given I'm pretty sure Zelda games always have the largest internal team of any Nintendo project. Zelda: OoT did, Zelda: Wind Waker did, Zelda: TP did, it would be surprising if Zelda U didn't.

It is a given, but it needed to be said since you think the game is gonna take longer to make since its the first HD Zelda.  That bigger team is there to compensate for the extra work.  Saying its a bigger Zelda than the last one is not a valid reason as to why this game is gonna be delayed.

So, here is the problems with your Line-Up:

Apr - Fatal Frame V (May take more time)
June - Splatoon (I actually expect this earlier)
November - Pokken Fighter (Nothing indicates that this will come to the West in 2015)
December - Star Fox U (Just no. It will come in 2016)

Also, as others have pointed, there is no big title for the Holydays. Pokken is not a "sure" seller, as Tekken is not that strong. Star Fox is a very tricky IP,a challenging game, but with talking animals. Also, the last iterations were not praised, so we can't consider it a system seller.

Zelda isn't a spring game. It's always released on holidays so if it is delayed to 2016, it's likely going to be holiday 2016.

That said, there IS a hole in that 2015 lineup. There's no big system-seller there. They need to have something to push consoles near the holidays, and Zelda is that game - sure, there's several games that could spark some interest, such as Splatoon, Star Fox, Xenoblade, etc... but it's lacking a real system-seller kind of game.

Zelda isn't a system seller. Like Mario Kart and pikmin, people who wants Zelda U already bought a wii U

I think if Wii U sales drop back to a poor baseline after the usual holiday bump this fall, I think Nintendo is going to kinda "call it" with the Wii U ... as in it's a dead man walking as a console.

A smart company knows how to manage its assets properly, wasting the most expensive Nintendo game ever made on the lowest Nintendo userbase ever (outside of the Virtual Boy) is probably not something Nintendo is eagerly keen on.

If the Wii U looks like a sinking ship no matter what Nintendo throws at it (and they should know for sure after next year's holiday push -- if Mario Kart, 3D World, Smash, and amiibo still can't get it to sell well outside of short burts, then Zelda U sure as hell is not going to), then I think Nintendo will start to look at this as a strong option.

1.5-2 million even in extra sales is nothing to scoff at, that probably covers the entire game's dev budget, leaving the rest of the sales as pure profit.

Whoa Whoa Whoa. They have been working on this game since 2011 since they showed it at E3. It's coming out May(to help summer sales ala MK8) or the Holiday of 2015 GUARANTEED. It was going to release this holiday remember but they pushed it back. Also, seeing another article talking about it makes me believe it is almost done.

They didn't show it at E3 2011, that was just a tech demo.

Yes that is what I mean. They have been working on it since then.

That's a lot of baseless speculation.
