Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'm Starting To Feel Zelda U Isn't Coming Until 2016

Teel us more about your feelings ...

I don't think so. I don't think we'll see Star Fox U or any 3D Mario next year. I think a Mario Kart expansion will come this holiday instead. They wanted to push MK8 throughout 2014. Can't see how else that can do that.

Also don't see Zelda U coming out on any handheld anything. Not with the way Nintendo budgets their handhelds. No way they'll make a handheld powerful enough to play Wii U like games at $200 or less, and no way will they try to sell a $250 handheld again after the 3DS.

I don't think we'll have six months in 2015 without a major 1st party AAA release in the West. I also can't see Xenoblade coming out too soon, though. Are you mixing japanese and western release dates? Some of this doesn't make sense. We won't see Xenoblade until the end of next year in my opinion.

Wait. I see what you're saying.

To be honest I think Nintendo is kinda content on the Wii U being what it is. It's not going to have some huge surge in sales, it will have some bumps now and again, but it's headed to about a 18 million LTD finish barring a miracle.

Zelda in November 15 versus Zelda in May 16 isn't going to change that.

What Zelda in May 16 does though ... it could allow it to also act as a launch title for the next Nintendo handheld. Which could be a really big thing for them, it gives them a big title to launch with and probably channels an extra couple of million in sales into the game. Something I don't think Nintendo takes lightly as it will likely be the most expensive Nintendo game ever made (gotta maximize its sales potential).

I think it will release in spring 2016 for Wii U + a launch title for the next Nintendo handheld.

I really don't want to wait that much just to play Zelda U, but I think it might come out in 2016 after all..

TP was GC's second Zelda game so it could be pushed back to release on both consoles.  This is the Wii U's first Zelda game, its gonna be exclusive to the console, every Nintendo console gets its own exclusive Zelda game.

Yeah I think it will be delayed as well.

The Fusion platform could have a craaaaazy stacked lineup if Nintendo really wants it to ...

Lets say assume a May 2016 launch (Japan), I could see them getting Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Galaxy 3, Animal Crossing Next, and Luigi's Mansion 3 for the year fairly easily. The next EAD Tokyo Mario and a new Animal Crossing are both overdue by 2016, really so should Next Level Games' next project.

It would certainly be the anti-Wii U/3DS launch window.

What about the 15+ million Wii U owners that they just pissed off that they only got 3 and half years of content on a system they paid $300-350.

Doesn't matter how stacked the next console is, if they  don't get returning customers, it'll flop.

More like it'll be maybe 100,000 people with a stick up their rear end who are upset by that, most people won't mind that early adopters of the new Nintendo handheld can play the same Zelda game, most people won't care.

I'm sure there are some GameCube die-hards who are still upset that Twilight Princess wasn't GameCube-only like they felt entitled too, but the fact is moving it to be a dual GCN/Wii release was a far, far, faaaaar smarter business decision.

Another cool thing Nintendo could do, if you buy the Wii U version, perhaps you could get the Fusion version for free, that way when/if you buy the Fusion handheld, you can play it on the go now too.

No one is clamoring to play the biggest and most open world Zelda game yet on a handheld.

If I can play it at home and on the road on a nice quality (5+ inch) tablet style handheld with an HD screen ... some of us might. You may not. But that's the whole point of giving the consumer a choice. I think as above Nintendo could offer a scenario where Wii U buyers of Zelda could get a free voucher for the game on the handheld (so they can play at home and on the go, assuming they own both systems). Nice incentive to get Wii U owners to buy a Fusion handheld perhaps earlier on too.

Hmmm... No. I don't think Nintendo will delay it just because they already have enough games for the year. Most likely, Zelda U releases in November 2015 with an unnanounced game in December, and Starfox comes out in 2016.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
