Forums - Gaming Discussion - The PS4 may be stealing players from Microsoft and Nintendo

From xbox, not much from Nintendo.

The games that come out on PS as of late are not games that imho can support such a great gamerbase. The PS2 library could, but the types of games the PS4 is getting is much like the PS3. I don't see why the PS4 should sell so much more. I also believe there was a lot of cross-over buyers between 360 and PS3 at the time ,and that many console sales were due to remodels (Slim, etc.)

disagree, considering the ps3 is creeping in on wii ltd sales..

You can get LEGO BATMAN

and AMAZING SPIDERMAN

and little big planet, on playstation.. playstation has always had the most diverse lineup of games out of any console.. and it has never not been the case.. only in the beginning of the ps3 era, and the ps vita/psp era was this any different

...and Xbox gamers told me they disagreed hen I showed them the numbers making predictions that the old multiplat audience who owned PS2's and switched to the 360 and reverted back to the Playstation would happen again.

Sucks to be right sometimes.  I guess its trolling when its common sense and everyone knows the majority of gamers follow multiplats and the most popular console of the day in their region.

The torch was passed with most usage from PS1> PS2> 360> PS4.

I don't really buy this idea that PS2 gamers are "coming home." Why? Because as of this fall, the PS2 will be 14 years old. Those teenagers are now over 30. Those 20 somethings are now pushing 40 and those 30 somethings are now pushing 50. There is no way most of those gamers (most of which were mainstream consumers) are still hanging around, glued to the industry etc.

I'm sure a small percent are still around, but come on.

Sony lost 70 million gamers last gen and Microsoft gained 50+ M gamers last gen. The market didnt expand outside of the Wii so we know where Sonys lost gamers went. Come on man, this is why we have charts. Look at the numbers and do the math based on console sales.

But that's basically assumption. I am sure alot of PS2 owners got 360's. But at what number? No one knows. The thing I'm talking about is trying to take three generations and find some sort of migration chart or patern. I think that's just ridiculous. Over the course of 14 years, so many things have happened that it's impossible to say with any certainty where PS2 gamers went. It's just as likely that PS2 owners grew up and bought houses and raised kids as it is that they ALL magically bought PS4's.

Too many variables.

To my recollection Nintendo took the rest of the numbers. Microsoft didnt take all of the gamers. Nintendo introduced 50-60 million non-gamers to the Wii console and gaming in general and already had about 23 million from the gen before plus the other 15 or so million gamers sony lost. It adds up (not perfectly but enough to be considered convincing in theory).

MS figured out the key to beating Sony, Nintendo or even Sega had everything to do with garnering the multiplats. Thats why they rushed the development of the 360 to get the years head start. They had to make as many exclusive deals and level the third party playing field as much as possible. It succeeded while the integrity of their rushed consoled collapsed beneath them. It didnt matter in the end because they had already set the standard they desired. Even in my early days being Wii60 In this forum I knew where the mass majority of the 360's numbers came from. MS didnt create a new market. They took from the existing one just like Sony did with Nintendo. The difference between Sony and Microsoft is Sony increased the numbers they gained off the back of Nintendo and multiplied it. Sony had the game down from their first gen.
