Forums - Gaming Discussion - The PS4 may be stealing players from Microsoft and Nintendo

To be honest with all the talk Sony has been making over the last year youd think it was more than 31%.

So only about 3 million PS4 owners changed to Sony?
~2mill from 360
~1mill from Wii

31% is a huge amount.  If you take the Xbox 360 at 80 million and Wii at 100 million, together the competion earned 180 million sales at least.

If you take 30% of 180 million (55 million) and add it to what the PS3 did, you have a situation where the PS4 is on track to do 130 million units.

This is huge for Sony.

I suppose, but that is relative to last gen sales which I dont think this gen will outperform.

My numbers came from current sales trend which just makes more sense to me.

Nielsen's data regarding "active gamers" is questionable at best anyway. Remember that survey they did of hardcore gamers that included iOS gamers but excluded Nintendo and both handhelds?

I agree.  But it does seem to match Sony's own statements.  Nielsen uses their own methods to track useage and sales, much in the same way that this site does.

Neither is 100% accurate and should only be used to make perdictions, not report on actual sold through numbers.

As Sony updates us on their results, we can adust our tracking to meet current trends.  This will allow VGC and Neilsen to make better predictions.

...and Xbox gamers told me they disagreed hen I showed them the numbers making predictions that the old multiplat audience who owned PS2's and switched to the 360 and reverted back to the Playstation would happen again.

Sucks to be right sometimes.  I guess its trolling when its common sense and everyone knows the majority of gamers follow multiplats and the most popular console of the day in their region.

The torch was passed with most usage from PS1> PS2> 360> PS4.
