Forums - Movies Discussion - Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For : The biggest bomb of the year?

With a Budget of 60-80 million, and with the original making well over 100 million dollars domestically, it seems the Sequal has floundered.

I say it was either way to violent, or people have moved on. Was it not put out nearly a decade ago? Or is there another reason? Did it only come out Sunday night? Was there a global power outage for Sin City films only?

According to Boxofficemojo it was released on 2894 screens, and I doubt it will get anymore.

There have been other bombs, but I cannot help to think that this is one of the biggest. Especially with how big the DVD/BluRay was, the ratings it gets on television and how much the first one made.

Maybe it's because you can read A Dame to Kill for in a matter of two minutes?

The Hobbit part three is only like the last 20 pages of the book if I remember correctly, yet it is still probaly going to be 3 hours and really good.

this is not an excuse Mr. Wright. It is in fact Wrong.

I think the gap (9 years?!) from the original had a lot to do with it. It was in development for a long time and much of the enthusiasm around it seemed to peter off the longer it took.

It does seem to be the biggest flop though as no way it comes close to making any money.

Marketing could have been a problem.

I had no idea they made a sequel to this movie till today.

I don't think the marketing budget for it was strong. I didn't even know it was out and I go to movie theater quite a bit.

"Give me 60fps or give me death."

Not sure. How much the ninja turtles did? (commercially)

As of the 24th its at $145 million in NA, estimated $93 million in other countries.  So $238 total.

Budget was $125 million.
