Can we honestly hold you to that?

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I reckon that if they do it right, it will be huge and if it isn't it should still help out the wii u quite alot.

I'm not sure how well they'll do, to be honest. I can see them as being great collectables in years to come, however much of a hit or flop they might be. They need to be marketed correctly from the outset, or they'll go the same way as the Wii U.

Right now, if an Amiibo was shown to any member of the public in the street, they'd probably think that it was a McDonald's toy or another Skylanders-type figurine for a Mario game. It really needs to be explained clearly and in one sentence what these things will do and why they are so different from the other videogame toys.

If people don't understand what they are, they're not going to buy them, and at best, they'll be regarded as some kind of copycat fad.

With the kind of install base the 3DS has, there is no reason why the Amiibo shouldn't catch on, provided there are enough games to warrant buying one, and that the price is reasonable.

I hope Nintendo get it right, this time.

1.Nintendo's toys will be working with a MULTITUDE of games.

This is why I don't think it will do well, Skylanders games are actually REALLY good, while Amiibo seems so forced into games and pretty pointless, even Nintendo doesn't know how to incoperate them. Look at pokemon rumble and why it didn't take off, the only reason why I don't regret having all the rumble figures is beacuse its going up in price.

As a huge Nintendo fan, I hope Nintendo will change my opinion about Amiibos, but right now Skylanders >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Amiibos.

They really aren't necessary for the games like Skylanders or Infinity figures are. Plus with a new wave of Skylanders coming in October, it's going to really eat into the demand for these, plus older Skylanders are cheap now and you can get into the games without spending a lot of money. These seem really expensive and don't add much to the games. Plus if you don't own a Wii U than there will be a $300 plus $60 game on top of the figures, not a lot of people are going to throw 400-500 for a cheap Skylanders ripoff experience that don't already have the console. These are not going to be big, profitable I'm sure since they are cheap plastic figures, but not anything special. Pokemon might, but like someone else said, it would have been much bigger 5-10 years ago, not now.

This is an opinion thread. I have no facts to base it up, just a gut feeling. I genuinally believe that the argument that Amiibo's will be as impactful as Skylander is very limited in sight. I have multiple reasons why:

1. People compare Amiibo to Skylander and Infinity, both of which have toys for ONE game or game series. Nintendo's toys will be working with a MULTITUDE of games coming out 2014 and 2015 and probably a whole lot more that haven't even been announced yet (Animal Crossing U, Pokemon U, Pokken, etc). It will be HUGE compared to Skyfinity based on this single feat alone.

2. People will recognize Nintendo toys for years and decades more than they will Skyfinity toys (depending on the toy). Old people will recognize them and want to buy their grand kids something that they KNOW isn't offensive or violent (they don't know the same thing about Skylander and, for the most part, Disney Infinity). Middle age people will remember playing with these characters from their own youth and will feel nostalgic and want their kids to experience what they did if they haven't already (also these middle aged people may still be gamers and want to collect these toys themself). I'm 23 years old and can't wait to collect these toys and play the games they are compatible with and I'm thinking there are at least a decent amount or 20 or 30 somethings out there who feel the same way. Lastly the kids will see these toys and, because of Skylander toys and how cool they are as well as their identification of iconic characters, desire them.

3. They are FAR more advanced in capabilities and in future prospect than Skyfinity toys.

4. It will work with both Wii U and 3ds (at least in some capacity on the 3ds).

5. Like the Wii mote, which did not invent motion controls but rather make it a global hit, I think people will look at amiibo and realize this is the beginning of the perfection of something massive and they will want to buy it and experience it.

1. Being over multiple titles I see as a disadvantage. Skylanders and Infinity have a game, and toys based around it. It is much easier for a kid to convince their parents to buy one game and a couple of toys, than to convince them to buy a couple of toys, and then keep buying multiple games as well. I can see how this can become irritating to parents.

2. You are 23, and about the lower age margin of hardcore Nintendo users, who have fallen in love with those characters during their childhood and still enjoy them in their mature age. Kids today (pre-teens) don't care about Nintendo characters, they have new heroes (superheroes) they want to play. Marvel Infinity will wipe the floor with Amiibos.

3. More advanced does not equal better sales. It's pre-teen kids that are using it, all they need is a plug and play toy, the less complicated the better.

4. If kids didn't buy WiiU because of all the games, why would they buy it because of toys from those games?

5. Sure, it will be a fad, some fans will buy it, but Skylanders and Infinity are all over schools already, noi need for a third line of toys.

I need more info as to what the heck they're supposed to be used for exactly, specific games they'll be compatible with and what specifically they'll add to them, as well as pricepoints and future plans of Nintendo.

Right now we don't know anything, really, not even what figures they plan to release initially and how much they'll cost. Will they be bundled with games? Will there be an Amiibo-centered game? They only showed some vague Smash Bros. demo which imo didn't clarify a whole lot, nor seemed interesting at all.

I'm sure Nintendo must have some sort of overall plan for Amiibo, I just wish they'd elaborate, because right now it looks as if they haven't got a clue as to what they plan on doing with it, themselves.

Disney does have a bigger universe so it will be interesting to see how many Nintendo characters we'll see in their line-up and which ones prove to be popular.
