It's so awesome to read about other people's first Super Metroid experience. If you can, try Prime once you're done. It's better after playing Super Metroid because you'll understand what kind of game it is (ie not a shooter)

funny no ones mentioning other m.

Mentioning it should be a bannable offence.

best metroidvania ever.

First off...thanks for taking the time to try out this game and ignoring the game based on hype alone as many people do.

Secondly, you hit the nail on the head as far as "growing into the hero" is concerned. That is my favorite think about a "MetroidVania" and something that Super Metroid does better than most: it makes you feel, both through your own personal abilities and through the items you acquire, that you are becoming a god.

My favorite moment of this game...and probably any game, isthe reason for my screen name. When you attempt to go for an energy tank you fall through the floor and end up near a save station. Like many, I saved. I saved and then found myself at the bottom of a very large shaft with no way to get back up. And the whole time these little pesky creatures kept laughing at me, and jumping off the walls. Bastards.

Of course, those creatures were Etecoons and their only mission in the game is to teach you of your inherent ability to wall jump. That's right...you can wall jump without any items, once you master the mechanic. Games just don't do this anymore...they're so focused on creating am accessible avatar and gameplay system that they neglect to give advanced gamers new mechanics that they can use to sequence break. For this reason, and many others, Super Metroid IS the best game of all time.

... and I love it!

I never was a fan of Nintendos own games back in the NES days. I didn´t like Zelda, Super Mario or Metroid but did go through them. I suppose a big part of my negative attitude came from me being a SEGA fan.

So, naturally I assumed I wouldn´t like their SNES counterparts. I have, however, now started playing through Super Metroid (just got the lava suit) and it is utterly amazing! The setting, music and graphics really pull you in. You also grow into this super hero gradually and just feel more and more superior.

It feels like a whole new world of gaming has opened up for me and I look forward to playing A Link to the Past, Castlevania and the likes soon enough.

I just wanted to share this great experience! Hope you too have found gems on consoles you previously didn´t like/play on! :)

What is you favorite Super Metroid memory?

The greatest Super Metroid moment (I don't know if you have reached it yet) is when you fall through a pit, and you learn how to get out by imitating the little animals.

I don't know if it is worth spending £5 on something that looks like I may not like ,,,,,,,at all.

Especially this close to smash.

The atmosphere and music are both amazing. In terms of gameplay, there is a little bit of semi-challenging platforming. The real fun is using powerups to discover hidden bonuses that are littered everywhere. It's a bit like Legend of Zelda in that regards. I hope that tells you whether you would enjoy it or not.

The thing is, I haven't played that type of game so I don't know. It's still on my eshop wishlist to try it, but it's not very high at priority.

I'm playing through Metroid on NES, and man... it's hard! So hard I don't play it quite as often as I should. Perhaps that's why you didn't like it?

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I have come quite a bit into the game now, getting the X-Ray vision really helped :).

The only thing I regret is not writing down the map on paper from the beginning. The ingame map is kind of useless so I am thinking of either backtracking or playing it from the start again in order to mark where everything is in the game. I have not decided yet though :).
