Ubisoft warns Nintendo: don’t lose the magic
Earlier today, the official Ubisoft twitter account tweeted its disapproval of the Mercedes-Benz DLC for Mario Kart 8, stating that it “breaks the magic” and warning Nintendo to “Be careful“. The tweet was swiftly deleted, however, as with anything – once it’s on the internet it’s not that easy to remove.
Ubisoft immediately began damage control, issuing another statement that the opinion expressed was not that of Ubisoft as a company.
Sorry about that. The opinion expressed does not in any way represent those of Ubisoft. It's been deleted.

Personally, I disagree with Ubisoft. I don’t think the Mercedes-Benz DLC takes any of the magic out of Mario Kart 8, if anything it further emphasises that Nintendo is all about having fun. It’s a novelty DLC, it’s meant to amuse players and I think that’s what it does. Obviously it’s a marketing ploy, but that doesn’t make it any less fun for users. For example, a small child isn’t going to care that it’s promoting a real car, he’s just going to be happy that his new car looks “cool”. Not to mention, it’s entirely optional, so if people really dislike it it’s not as if they have to download it. I think it’s pretty unprofessional for Ubisoft to make a dig at Nintendo, clearly it realises that too which is why it’s trying to distance itself from the original tweet. I have no doubt that the day that Ubisoft ever creates some novelty DLC, even remotely in a similar vein, the Nintendo fans shall emerge to remind them of today.
