Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 vs Playstation 3, Who Won?

360

Software wise it beat PS3 and hardware wise it's about the same. Plus it gave us many innovative features that we consider standard nowadays like online features and achievements.

Neither.

Nintendo "won" last gen.

2nd place was pretty much a tie.

I feel your OP is a bit bias with a few to many opinions.

Games wise, id say Sony won cause they supported their system creating more exclusives by total number of exclusives, and not timed or 3rd party games.

MS did what they had to to stay ahead till the end of the gen, but Nintendo Wii won both the HD war and the 7th gen. without releasing an HD console during the 7th.

You can't just take the Wii out because it wasn't an HD console.

Nintendo won, number 2 is not a winner, and 3 nobody remembers.

Nintendo won total number of exclusives , but Sony was more diverse with their ip.

We know who lost the profites war, and we know Nintendo won it.

I can sit here and break it down but i doubt we'll be seeing Sony nor MS winning many areas of the 7th gen. War, yet Sony is poised to win every area of this the 8th gen.  by hardware sales 1.Nintendo 2.Sony 3.MS. end the arguement......its dead.

Who won? "Winning" is usually defined with hard sales, which means that the PS3 won in that quantitative sense.

Alternative ways of looking at it:

Sales: PS3
Gains compared to 6th gen: 360
Overall quality/reception at the end of the 7th gen leading into the 8th: PS3
Games: PS3
Console lifespan longevity: PS3
Innovation/impact on industry: Tied

One system sold 400% as much as the earlier iteration. The other one sold 33% less.

You decide who the real winner here is.

Ps3 by a large margin imo

this sumed up what i was saying with less words and without mentioning Nintendo winning in near every category, which is cool because this thread has almost little to do with Nintendo as they are not mentioned in the OP.

this is the correct responce.

Xbox 360 was a bigger win for MS than the PS3 was for Sony....
That been said, The PS3 finished the gen stronger than the 360 and for that reason, is currently outselling it WW.
Sony consoles have very long legs and this might continue for a while.
I am very happy the X360 happened because it put Sony in check and ensured that the PS4 will be a much better console than the PS3 was.

Winning Console: PS3; outselling the competition after a very bad start and one year behind. Also better exclusives and with the more diverse options and games. the PS+ rewards were also better than the Xbox Gold rewards

Winning Parent company: Microsoft; Set themselves as a strong contender in the industry by gaining over 400% of their previous marketshare and selling more software than their competition. Also better online service for the first 5 years of the gen really helps a lot. unfortunately they got very cocky like Sony did at the start of the previous gen.

Question now is what can MS do about this gen? the Playstation brand is the bigger, more popular and more favorable gaming brand worldwide. Sony were able to use this to ensure a comeback last gen and that comeback also came at the expense of losing billions in the race. the Xbox brand isn't big at all outside of the North America and the UK. Therefore MS has a bigger challenge to face than Sony ever did and may end up losing more than Sony lost last gen and still might not even catch up.

I think the Wii will prove to be their most costly mistake, despite being their highest selling home console.

to consumers i think PS3 won, to the companies business the 360 won.. that reflects the state of this new gen.

360 was a hit to MS, PS3 was not for Sony, but i think MS damaged more the image of Xbox than the other way around.

In the end i think 360 won because of it's early years and the fight it gave.
