Are the cancelling of major franchise games for Wii U really a sign of damage control from 3rd Party developers?
Are Ubisoft, Activision and Warner sensing something bad coming and are trying to minimize financial damage trough cutting costs i.e. Wii U port cost?
Three examples:
The combined PS360 sales for the last years look like this (all numbers in millions):
1. Assassin's Creed
Sales of Assassin's Creed games took a bad turn after ACIII. This year there are two versions of the game, one for the old generation and one for the new. Will there be any interest left for the old gen. game? Was ACIII the great game that gave the sales a peak or was it the game that gave AC-series a bad name, giving ACIV less sales and with its resemblance to AC: Rouge will give it even lower sales?
2009: 5.35+5.11=10.46 (ACII)
2010: 3.31+2.70=6.01(Brotherhood)
2011: 4.06+4.11=8.16 (Revelations)
2012: 5.94+4.91=10.85 (ACIII)
2013: 3.10+2.71=5.81 (ACIV)
2013 has the first sales for PS4 and XOne:1.75+0.84=2.59
Totally for all 4 consoles 2013 ends up with sales of 8.40
2.Call of Duty
COD peaked its sales in 2011. With a supposedly new engine for the new generation - how will it downgrade to PS360? Are the dudebros still interested?
2009: 13.25+10.39=23.64
2010: 14.08+12.21=26.29
2011: 14.27+12.93=27.20
2012: 12.97+12.83=25.00
2013: 8.90+8.20=17.10
2013 has the first sales for PS4 and XOne:2.47+1.93=4.40
Totally for all 4 consoles 2013 ends up with sales of 21.50
3.Batman
The third Arkham game lost almost 2/3 of those that bought the previous game. The fourth game will try to make it without support from PS360. Will the graphical enhancement boost sales again?
2009: 4.02+3.29=7.31
2011: 4.97+4.39=9.36
2013: 1.74+1.44=3.18
Is it franchise fatigue, console generation change or symptoms of a general decline that makes these flagship look like they are out for a tough ride.

This was written in the middle of the night as a cough held me awake so there are probably a lot of facts that are wrong.
