Forums - Gaming Discussion - MS engineer team

It was brought up earlier in previous thread dealing with Diablo 3, and the Witcher 3.

MS sending out engineering teams to help developers out, to maximize the benefits of the X1. Why are people mad about this?

Sony was aware last gen that they had the inferior version of multiplats. Out out of curiosity, did they ever send any teams out to help them achieve better results, since their first party games (just like nintendo) showed they had a better grasp of the hardware since they worked exclusively on it.

I think MS should be commended for their willingness to help devs by sending these teams out, and not just telling them to fix the situation.

This is just my opinion, I'm sure i'll get earfuls of what an idiot I am. that's fine if you disagree, just attach a resonable answer why.

Where are people mad at MS for helping developers?
It's the logical thing to do.

Though commending them for it might go a little too far since they're not doing this out of good will but pure self interest. Every console manufacturer is doing it.

Why do you think 3rd party devs got better with PS3 in 2008 and on. Sony sent dev teams as well.

Of course there is self interest, but who also benefits from this? The Xbox community, that the company making the hardware is also willing to help devs achieve more.

MS this gen, made the same mistake that Sony last gen made. They made a system that is/was hard to work on.
This was why I asked the question why didn't Sony do something similar last gen. Where they had the advantage of having the more powerful hardware.

They actually did this with Destiny too lol, it was in the video with IGN and their video that said Destiny's First Xbox One Footage in 1080p. They said they had to get help from Microsoft to get it too 1080p.

Man, this gen really does feel like the bit wars, just instead of bits, people are counting resolution

Just asking a question. like I have stated elsewhere this is the first gen I decided to read video games news online. before I got all my info from video games monthly mags. So, I'm still reading, and learning alot of new things. I still consider myself a casual gamer, moreso now that I have kids.

Sony did. But sending out help doesn't magically make the system a friendlier place to work on or instant graphical greatness.

Sony is doing it even now even though they have the easiest console to work on of all time.

Who has been mad about it? It's a good thing, not bad.

All it really tells us is that MS do care quite a bit about resolution, and rightly so. The X1 currently has the image of being an inadequate piece of hardware. That's of course true to any of us that like better image quality, but it's an image they obviously want to avoid becoming wide spread among general consumers.

The average joe doesn't care/know much as specific hardware types, resolutions, AA etc, but everyone understands the basic concept of product A > product B. That's a dangerous situation to find yourself in when you're selling at the same price as Product A.

Yeeeah, don't really see why anyone should be mad about this either. o.o Like vivster, I think commending them is a bit strong a word, given it isn't exactly done to help the third-party devs so much as it is to try and put this Resolution disparity thing to rest once and for all. But at the same time, it's hardly unique to Microsoft, and nothing at all to be critical about.

I will note that, IF (and I believe that someone at Microsoft denied this, so it is an if) Microsoft has been strongly pushing for devs to try and hit 1080p, then it does kind of fly in the face of their 'Oh, it doesn't matter, nobody would notice the difference anyway' insistence, back when titles weren't hitting it. But that's just the way of any company- focus on your positives, downplay your negatives- so it isn't even really notable or worth getting 'angry about.' End of the day, regardless of Microsoft's aims or interests in sending their teams to assist, be it hitting a specific goal or just 'squeezing out as much juice as you can,' the end result is shinier, sharper games for gamers, so that's a win. :3
