Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If you want quality mature games on Wii U, please don't support a gimped port of Watch Dogs. There's a better solution.

Dropping full support when the console's situation is starting to improve? Such a smart move.

i want the games.
first i want to have them, then i think if quality is good or not.

but if we get no game, what can we do?

I can agree with that. But yeah, like you said, Sony has a bunch of those IPs, and Nintendo simply doesn't. They have to make sure they bring more of those kinds of IPs to the table themselves. Nintendo needs to fill the gap for the so-called "mature gamer", and to build up a decent roster of those kinds of games is going to take time to develop. It really makes me hope that Nintendo considers funding more second-party developers like Platinum and Valhalla that are willing to make those kinds of games for Nintendo, because the first party devs certainly aren't interested.

Also, when I said Ninty's online was crap, I meant the systems they didn't put into place and expected developers to come up with on their own (invite systems, solid messaging systems, etc.). The actual quality of online play is good, it's just the other things that they don't have that I've got a problem with.

Oh... Well fuck. I kind of agree with you. Like 99%.

...Well this is awkward.

I think the only thing I'd change is that Nintendo can't just fund these games. They need to make them in house. Retro was originally made for this purpose. They need a lot more Retros, and they need them to actually do what they were originally hired for. They need to own those IPs.

TL;DR: You want more high quality mature titles on Wii U?

Yeah, will not happen ever, keep dreaming, or better go buy another console (or a decent PC), almost everyone already has one, so what is the point.

They can still own the IPs if they contract a developer to make it, like how they own IPs like The Wonderful 101 and Pandora's Tower. However, I agree that it would be nice if they acquired a couple of Western studios like Next Level Games or western-inspired studios like Valhalla (if Devil's Third proves to be a good game). In house development would probably be cheaper in the long run.

I think Sunset Overdrive would do very well on the Wii U. 2-3m lifetime. A game like that would actually get none Nintendo fans to buy the console, and since the Wii U just doesn't get games like that, it would have the added bonus of being overhyped, which it isn't on the XBO.

DKC had no chance on the Wii U. It would have done two times better on the 3DS. A 3D Donkey Kong platformer would have sold way better as well.

Sunset Overdrive would flop, unless it was rebranded as Mario Sunset Paintball (that would be actually kinda neat, lol).

[...]

Nah, all Sunset Overdrive would need on WiiU is some DLC where you play as Mario with the waterpack and clean up the place.

I do plan to buy Bayonetta 2 day one. But I do want to buy Watch Dogs too. I'm genuinely interested in the game and what Ubisoft can do with the gamepad.

This seems like terrible logic, but whatever... End of the day, no matter what you do, the wii u will not see very many mature games...

Nothing will work. Third party's don't like Nintendo and third party games aren't liked by Nintendo fans.

I had a bet going with fatslob that the Wii U port of Watch Dogs would be technically on par or worse than the PS3/360 versions, given Ubisoft's history of lazy, slapdash Wii U ports.

Unfortunately, he got perma-banned, but I stand by my prediction. This will be another shitty port job with an abysmal framerate and no attempt to capitalize on Wii U's larger memory or more modern GPU, mark my words.
