Titanfall.

I know everyone will jump on me for that, BUT ..... if Titanfall were multiplat, it wouldve been as big as DESTINY. Now it's just kind of an afterthought. By the time Titanfall 2 comes out in a couple years, there wont be nearly as much hype for it. XBONE fans will downplay it because its multiplat, and PS4 fans wont care because they didnt play the first one. 

Titanfall would never have existed if not for the deal with Microsoft. So that is a stupid example, had they stayed multi plat the game would not have been released. So in that example multi plat was suicide.

There isn't a unique rule, each game and franchise is a complex system and each variable must be correctly weighted to extract a function of costs and benefits.
Oversimplifying, receiving a large sum just for a timed exclusive is probably the sole win-win situation, but for every other it's much more difficult to tell.
And obviously there's always the possibility of mistakes in calculations and predictions.

No its actually brilliant. Would you rather be the must have game on a console that has at least 5 million consoles sold or have to compete with multiple games on a console that has sold more. Their costs are way down and its going to be promoted anywhere and everywhere. It's a can't lost situation. Not to mention 5 million consoles sold isn't exactly a bad number.

Now a days a 3rd party exclusive means a cash infusion from the console maker, so I think it can make financial sense to go Xbox exclusive.

Brand awareness might suffer though, since a smaller audience will play the game (though this can be countered if MS also puts up for advertising)

We are still in the first year. This pattern will not continue for long, MS has great exclusives and how much of last gen hasn't bought into this gen yet. 92% of last gen has not bought a system yet. So I'm not sure why these threads completely count Out XBOX. When a new HALO or GEARS come out, the system will move a lot of units.

That's not franchise suicide, Titanfall sold over 2 mil so far, Killzone sf 1.8 mil so far. You don't make sense Suicide means dead, can you name 1 franchise?
