Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is going XBox Exclusive franchise suicide at this point?

depends on the project.

i genuinely think exclusity helps a new IP like titanfall sell better than it otherwise would have.   established multiplate franchises like tomb raider are just fucking themselves into oblivion.

Suicide? no thats not the right term. developers will be able to turn a profit on MS exclusives. once you add in the exclusivity payments ontop of its sales.

without knowing how much MS is giving them, its really impossible to say. with the size of the PS market, one would think MS would have to pay quite a bit to make exclusivity the more profitable venture.

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

Nope, not at all. The exclusivity payment will go some way towards replacing the PS gamers, then the additional hype and sales it will receive for being exclusive could make up the rest. Even if it doesn't make as much as it could have it certainly isn't franchise 'suicide'.

This. Plus a lot more XBox Ones will be sold by holiday 2015

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Since PS4 almost has a 2:1 sales lead over Xbone, isnt it almost franchise suicide to make a game exclusive to xbox? Even if it comes out 6 months later on PS4, its hype will have entirely died off by then and PS4 gamers wont be interested in a game that theyre getting late.

thats the point of exclusives, you want to play Earlier you need an xbone

Nope. Xbox One is selling well enough that an exclusive can easily turn a profit. Sure these games could sell more on PS4, but Sony doesn't seem to be as willing to help pay for development and marketing budgets as MS is, and that helps offset the difference.

Do you have any proof of that?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

since titanfall is the best selling exclusive on new gen (and despite being a new IP) the answer seems clear

not at all especially since most of the big games sell really really well on xbox the only one that i can remember that didn't is watchdogs for some reason. sure the game would have a bigger audience on the ps4 but that doesn't mean it would sell more.

Third party developers are not making XB1 exclusives because they think it is a good idea by itself, they are getting paid for it. (same for PS4 exclusives)

If the money/exposure/marketing they get from MS reduces the risk and makes up for potential lost sales, then it is a good idea.

Well i think if you are going to do a deal that is so far out, you have to at least figure out how well the competitor is doing by then..otherwise it's lost sales. Who knows if SE has done that..would assume they would, but then companies can be pretty stupid.. we'll have to wait and see I guess.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

depends on the game, beeing exclusive can really help new ip´s like sunset overdrive, for already existing ip´s it´s more risky
