Forums - Sony Discussion - Eurogamer Interview with Shuhei Yoshida

Interesting:

- Sony didn't know about the deal for Rise of Tomb Raider. Wrong, Yoshida didn't know, he is a first party guy. He says the 3rd party relations team might've known.

Great interview though. Shu is always honest.

Interesting:

- TLG not at TGS and we might not here any more from it any time soon. To me sounds like a PS4 game since PS3 seems not the right platform for the game

Seems like like it

Shuhei Yoshida:
The technical issues on PS3 and the way it was engineered didn't work.

It's a pattern with Team ICO, ICO didn't work on ps1, SotC hardly ran on PS2 (It can't even do full 1080p on ps3), TLG flat out broke the ps3. Too ambitious. It might be bad game design figuring out last how to get it to work on the target machine, but it has delivered two awesome games. Sadly TLG will likely never live up to expectations. Would SotC still have been rated so highly if the first time it first came out was on ps3 after years of delay? Most reviews will start with, was it worth the wait. The game will probably come out once everyone stops asking for it :)

So, don't expect the game to come out this decade!

- EA Access not out of question but takes most said reason on forums: what if others do the same as EA?
- VITA more dead than alive while still games come for it
- New Silent Hill perhaps multiplatform

Praise the tl;dr savior!

Man they really stopped caring about the vita. Not even trying to save it

-Actually Shu didn't know about the deal. He said third party relations might have.

-That's a much better stance to take from Sony, if he's to be believed, the idea that they refused it on the grounds that it competes with their service, as many posters suggested, is incorrect.

-I would assume SH is definitely multiplatform, there's currently no reason to believe otherwise.

-I agree, TLG is definitely a PS4 game at this time, I expect some news on it next E3.

Far more interesting I think, is the glimpse in to how SCE operates and thinks.

-Sony doesn't really understand why the PS4 is selling through so quickly. They're trying to establish a single decisive factor, but are still searching.

-The exceptionally high sales actually created a sense of alarm. While a positive thing for SCE, it wasn't expected and therefore not planned for.

-(This one is really interesting) SCE Third party relations and Shu (assuming other higher ups as well) may not actually be in immediate contact over large third party deals taking place. He was in the dark about things like TR and SH.

-Sony are very happy with TLOU sales, despite an earlier report.

My point:

-Shu is exactly the type of person we as gamers want to be at the head of these divisions when it comes to transparency and openness.

We know PS4 is 40,000 units undertracked in Germany as of the end of June, let's say 50,000 as of now.

Germany represents 15.75% of PS4 sales according to VGC.

Extrapolate those numbers to get a hypothetical total, and you get 320,000 units undertracked in Europe. Despite what ioi says, I'm sure a good chunk of missing sales come from Europe.

The other 280k must come from other areas of the world.

Logic ftw  :)

I found that interesting too. I thought, "Shouldn't Adam Boyes report to Yoshida?", so I looked him up. Adam Boyes is (according to his twitter) VP of Publisher & Developer Relations. In other words if Yoshida is the top man for SCE Studios, Boyes wouldn't asnwer to him, he'd answer to Andrew House, as does Yoshida. Yoshida would only know about any deals with 3rd parties or games coming out via them from proper meetings involving the 2, their direct work does not overlap at all.

Hmm, pie.

Great interview, sounds like a cool guy. The EA matter sounds a bit embarrassing though, I think they would benefit from saying what the reason is, they want to focus on PS Now and EA access takes away some of that focus, which doesn't benefit Sony. And from that perspective, it is probably a good thing to skip EA access right now.

I think they have been saying the reason and its what most people here have also said. I don't think it has much to do with PSnow cause that service works for every publisher on a game by game basis. EAs games will be on it too.

The real reason and as they have said, is what happens if every publisher does the same thing too. I like a lot of other members here have been saying this same thing and I don't understand how some people can't see how that is a big issue. Everyone is already talking about cutting the wire in regard to TV subscriptions and modernizing the TV distribution model yet we are about to openly embrace the exact same thing for games? EA access will just be the start, by the time every publisher does it, someone will come up with the great idea of having a service that has all the publishers services tied into it and having users pay as much as $50/month for such a service. And just like that, game distribution has become like TV.
