Forums - Sony Discussion - Eurogamer Interview with Shuhei Yoshida

No wonder ioi is having trouble tracking what's going on with PS4 sales. Sony don't have a clue what's going on either

It´s a mistery that VGChartz is strugling to "adjust".

Considering how things are going in Japan and the figure NPD shows us, why Europa and "rest of the world" are giving an almost 200% boost on the PS4 over the Wii needs a explanation.

Playstation has always been a more global brand then any other gaming brand, especially since the PS2. The PS3 is set to outsell the Wii in Europe and has already done it in the rest of the world (Vgchartz data), what do you think the PS4 will do in those markets?

There are other threads where I exposed the numbers PS4 would have to be pulling in Europe to reach the 10mi mark since we basic know the USA and Japan situation.

I just think that when things shift so much from a previous pattern there should be a good reason.

In the USA we know that the price of the PS4 over its direct competitor, and the no show of the third player, gave it a boost in market share. We know the lack of japanease games are damaging PS4 sales in Japan.

But the ratio in Europe shifted from 4:3 or 5:3, PS3/360 in the last few years to basicaly 5:1, PS4/XOne. VGChartz numbers without adjust to 10mi, and if the majority the undertracking is comming from Europe sales (and XOne sales are accurate) the sales ratio for this year could be 7:1 or 8:1.

PS4 will easily do over 40M in EU and 15M+ in ROW

well past Wii and PS3

Was more of a rhetorical question but yeah the PS4 should easily overtake both.

XB1 is getting slaughtered in Europe, no surprise there. We all know it's true. There's nothing that suggest the ratio isn't that high...

Sales will not be exclusively coming from Europe, if we believe what ioi said, then a large part of the undertracking must have happened in the rest of the world. And what is so implausible about the PS4 outselling the X1 by a ratio of 5 to 1 in Europe? The reason is simply that the Xbox brand lost everything that gave it as much success in Europe as it had with the 360. It's not early on the market, it's not cheaper and it had horrible PR, meanwhile the PS4 did pretty much everything right and in large parts of Europe Playstation is simply synonymous with console gaming. The X1 doesn't stand a chance in Europe.

Wow, great interview.
Yoshida seemed as clueless as we are about Tomb Raider's exclusivity.

We know PS4 is 40,000 units undertracked in Germany as of the end of June, let's say 50,000 as of now.

Germany represents 15.75% of PS4 sales according to VGC.

Extrapolate those numbers to get a hypothetical total, and you get 320,000 units undertracked in Europe. Despite what ioi says, I'm sure a good chunk of missing sales come from Europe.

The other 280k must come from other areas of the world.
