would those numbers even really be upto date by the time he gets them?

They don't need to be up to date. If, in October, Sony finally gets around to sending additional information to ioi as of August 1st, VgChartz will be able to update the past sales data, as well as implement new ratios into their formulas for all future data that will result in more accurate reporting. As ioi said, however, you do not want to implement this before knowing the true breakdown as it will just result in a bigger mess.

They do not need to be upto date, you are absolutely right ...if you are not going for being as accurate as you can be.Quite true, the data does not have to be upto date, it just means you can just project past the old data to come up with a figure. Great for a guideline on sales data, but not as good for Accurate account. Which is ok if you are going for such a thing.

Imo,

I think vgc is a great site. I really respect the work you put into the site and understand that it is difficult to get a perfect tracking of all units sold for any of the consoles and the games. However, to prevent the site members from complaining and keep your tracking up to standard, why dont you just add a tab to your numbers? I mean, when you get official numbers like this from Sony, why dont you just add a tab called "unknown" or "undertracked" to get the total number as correct as possible while you work on locating the source for the undertracked units. Then, as you discover where you have made "errors" or where your tracking has been insufficient, you just move units from the "undertracked" tab to the region where the units have been found. This way you can keep vgc numbers and show "official" totals. The fans of the site will be happy and cannot complain about you not showing the real numbers and you can keep your numbers seperate without just placing units in regions just to keep the numbers up to date.

Just my two cents on the whole situation.

My only question was that if you consider you to be closer with 440k in others or Sony with 1M, not that you correct randomly.

I can't really answer that question with any more certainty than I have tried to already!

Clearly we feel that 440k is a good estimate for MEAA based on all of the information we have (we are already using far higher extrapolation factors than we ever have for any previous platform) but Sony's data appears to contradict that. Therefore I'd suspect that the reality is probably somewhere between the two.

Great. I agree there isn't much more to say on this.

When you get the breakdown could you please make a comparison so we see where sony is over or under vgc numbers?

Why the hell should Sony send ioi additional information. It's OVER 10 million. That's all we need to know.

Because contrary to what other people likely think, I'd wager Sony is getting their weekly sales information from VgChartz as one of their sources (There is a huge difference between VgChartz reporting sales weekly and Sony knowing what they shipped weekly). This weekly information ensures that production levels are adequate, etc. So it is really in Sony's best interest that VgChartz be accurate.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

France - 0.55m
Germany - 0.60m

Those numbers are different to what you have in the global weekly charts, which is probably why etho thinks they are inaccurate. I'm guessing they have been adjusted up for the latest week but aren't showing that yet.

Yes im sure they are losing sleep over vgs undertracking.  Some of you need to get real, how the hell do you even come up with such delusion of grandeur.

likely they also added PAID preorders for the countries where supply hasn't met demand yet y/n?

Our current regional data for PS4:

Americas

USA - 3.92m
Canada - 0.35m
Latin America - 0.32m
Total Americas - 4.59m

Europe

UK - 0.98m
France - 0.55m
Germany - 0.60m
Spain / Portugal - 0.33m
Italy - 0.26m
Nordic - 0.16m
Benelux - 0.22m
Rest of Europe 0.42m
Total Europe - 3.52m

Middle East, Africa and Asia

Japan - 0.66m
Australia / New Zealand - 0.25m
Middle East - 0.10m
Africa - 0.03m
Asia - 0.30m
Total MEAA - 1.33m

Total worldwide estimate - 9.44m

In which regions do you believe that PS4 is being undertracked on VGChartz?

Germany

0.60m seems right but it shows 0.54m for me as of Ago 2 that is undertracked.

 Spain / Portugal

Undertracked because Spain alone did 275k as of Jun 12 and Portugal did 21k in 2013... so I'm sure they did more than 30k from June 12 today for Spain and full 2014 for Portugal.

Nordic

They sold 55k in 2013... I believe they sold more than 100k in 2014 too.... you need remember that in 2013 there countries had little to no stock avaiable to sell.

France

0.55m is close to 40k more than what is showed on VGC... that is what I'm talking about... PS4 is sold in 100 countries if you have undertracked 10k in half of them then you have already 500k diff.

BTW it sold 240k in 2013 with suply issues... I'm have a hard time to think it sold just the same amount in 2014 with normal supply... Germany sold 540k  as of Jun 28, 2014 but Germany have yet supply issues with PS4 today.

I don't have data for others places yet except US (overtracked), Japan (in line) and 2013 UK.

ioi said that France is now 0.55m. 2nd of August numbers show 0.51, add on about 10k for the next week and you get 0.52. This means France has just been adjusted up about 30k. If France is off by that much when we have agencies that track software to give some sort of indication, I think its very likely other countries could be under tracked by a similar amount (like Germany which was 40k under). Using this logic its easy to believe those 10m numbers because, as etho said, PS4 is out in over 100 countries.

EDIT: thus ioi can't claim to be very accurate in other countries because they are covered by other tracking agencies, which aline well, because both France and Germany also have tracking agencies and VGC was quite a way off there
