Forums - Sony Discussion - Don't Expect Too Many More Remasters from Sony

I'm sure we'll get a UC collection first.

We saw so many HD collections last gen, it's not that big of a deal to me. It's also a better value than all the GOTY edition games we get every year, which are then better value than the original editions of games when they first launch.

Looks like Sony will be scaling back considerably on the remasters as the generation goes on, which is a stark contrast to the earlier comments from Andrew House, which implied that the PS4 would see a considerable amount of PS3 remakes.

"You can't have too many of these things otherwise next-gen just looks like rehashed last-gen and we certainly don't want that," PlayStation Europe executive Jim Ryan told CVG in an interview. "I think the balance is just about right but you know, there are other games that could be looked at, but there'll come a point where next gen will have moved on and rehashing old-gen will have passed its sell-by date."

Ryan explained that bringing a game like The Last of US to PS4 made a lot of sense because it earned great reviews and came out near the launch of the PS4. For the people who transitioned to a PS4 from a competing platform last generation, it was also the first opportunity to play it. Ryan said that Sony will look at bringing other PS3 games to PS4 when it "makes sense."

I think people are reading to much into this.  He isnt saying they are scaling anything back, but that they do not want to go overboard.  He is also reiterating that they want to release games when/if they make sense (basically to say we are just haphazardly throwing shit out...which was a concern some had)

I do not think this stance is a complete "about face" as others are suggesting.   I think the overall message is more of a reassuarance that this gen will not be only "rehasing of old-gen titles that have passed their sell-by date"

The only remaster that's VERY likely to be released is the Uncharted trilogy, a few months before UC4.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

I hope you also remember when your PS1, PS2 and PS3 games didn't take as long to develop and thus weren't as expensive to make as they are this gen, get over yourself.

It was Sony that held conferences priding themselves on how easy the PS4 is to develop for, several times easier than the PS2 and PS3.  You make a comment that's completely untrue to put Playstation on this pedestal like all previous gens did this.  When I point it out, you make another untrue apologetic comment.

Lol, and you think the shorter time to triangle is going to mean shorter dev times? When games all need higher resolution textures, more effects, better character models, animations and all that stuff. The easier architecture of the PS4 is great for porting games and it naturally also helps ground up PS4 development, but overall it will still take longer and be more expensive to make new games this gen, which is also something that was straight up said by Sony.

“We’ve been saying that the number of AAAs might be getting smaller because the cost of development for AAAs is getting higher,”

That's one of the few remasters I really want, so hopefully Sony is thinking about it!

I would gladly buy the Uncharted trilogy remastered. UC2 running in 1080p and 60fps would be glorious.

Isn't Andrew House Jim Ryan's boss? Wouldn't his statement be more credible?

I can see them doing an uncharted collection to give people who switched from a competing console to get into the story before U4 comes out

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Instead they're going to bring hundreds of PS3 games to PS4 via PS Now.
