Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Should nintendo pay Ubisoft and Capcom for ports?

ShShould nintendo have paid Ubisoft to port The Crew and AC: Rogue and Capcom for RE: remake

Yes all three 61 28.64%

No to all three 103 48.36%

Only RE 23 10.80%

Only AC: Rogue 4 1.88%

Only The Crew 2 0.94%

Yes RE and AC:Rogue 13 6.10%

Yes RE and The Crew 2 0.94%

Yes AC:Rogue and The Crew 5 2.35%

Total:213

The Question is: Should nintendo pay Ubisoft to port The Crew and AC: Rogue  or Capcom for the Resident Evil remake?

Pros:

Both games are coming to the previous generation of consoles, so that version could be ported to the WiiU without being "too" expensive.  3rd party support can only help the wiiu. Nintendo has a somewhat steady flow of games which will increase the number of WiiU consoles, increasing the chances of these three games being profitable.  If they are, maybe Nintendo can get some 3rd party support from major publishers again. Not many more major games will come to the previous  generation consoles, so these games might be the last chance to do something like this.

Cons:

According to Vgchartz, AC: 3 sold .26, AC: BF sold .19m , Need for Speed: MW sold .14m and ZombiU sold .70 m. None  of this numbers are that impressive( except maybe for ZombiU).But many of these copies have been sold at discounted prices, reducing the revenue they brought in. These three games would probably not do a lot much better, if at all.  These games would be a big risk for nintendo who needs to be smart about how it uses their money. The money could be better spent expanding already existing teams or hiring a third party studio to create a game in one of their dormant series ( like F-zero). However, this would probably not help Nintendo with its 3rd party support problem.

Nahhh, I doubt enough people on the wiiU care about either of those. If Ubisoft wants to do it, great, but Nintendo should spend the money elsewhere like making a fucking 3d Metroid game or Majoras Mask HD or Localizing Fatal Frame for NA

Not even for RE? I know you can't compare but Resident Evil has had moderate success on Nintendo platforms like Wii and to a smaller extent 3DS

Sony's dead handheld PS Vita sold 1 million copies of assassins creed liberation. This tells something. Until developers can use "mario name" example, mario creed, they cant sell a game in a nintendo system.

Definitely no to AAA ports. It's already been proven by sales that AAA third party multiplatform titles fail on Nintendo consoles, even the good ones like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, so Nintendo paying publishers like Ubisoft for those types of games would be fighting an uphill battle that they'd be guaranteed to lose. As for REmake, also no. I just feel like that'd be a waste of money.

Nintendo's money is better spent getting more second-party exclusives akin to Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Devil's Third, SMT X FE, and Fatal Frame V. They can't win the multiplat battle, but they most certainly can fight the exclusives battle and gain ground that way.

Yea but, lets say the price of the remake port takes as much money as localizing Fatal Frame for wiiU in the west cause this is capcom and they are quiet greedy so its like, which one would you rather have? Fatal Frame for wiiU or Resident Evil: Remake for wiiU? WiiU needs games that can only be playable on the wiiU cause thats the wiiU's main selling point at this stage of the generation so I do think they should focus more on that then trying to get some third party games that may or may not sell... Cause just looking at the past, most third parties sold far better on other consoles then it did on the wiiU and I am sure it will be the case for RE: Remake so I really do see no point in putting money on it. But when their next gen comes along and its somewhat of a fresh start, they definatly should pay for ports

I agree with this. I've already gotten over the whole third party thing which is pretty much redundant if there is a strong 1st party line up.

Maybe if Ubisoft's best-selling games appealed the the majority of Wii U owners and Capcom made Mega Man games!

If the sales of AAA ports justify the amount of money paid to Ubisoft and Capcom, then sure. But I don't think that will be the case. Nintendo should just use the money to invest into future projects that will make the WiiU an even more attractive option for the consumer.

Assasin Creed is pointless on Wii U. A Rayman game, a Prince of Persia game that was actually an action-PLATFORMER, and even a Heroes of Might and Magic for 3DS would make more sense.

Resident Evil has sold well, but for me Remake for Wii is the definitive version, I don't care about higher resolution.
Nintendo should invest in projects that make sense in Nintendo platforms, like an exclusive Megaman, or Maximo, or a Capcom vs Nintendo game.
